Holders for problem coins.

Ron,

Has PCGS considered or will PCGS in the future consider a holder where PCGS could grade and slab problem coins? I think that PCGS should consider grading and slabbing problem coins that are submitted for an extra fee. Otherwise the money often goes to one of your competitor's anyways. If you used another holder, it would be obvious that the coins weren't "problem free" and coins in the normal PCGS holders would always remain as problem free coins.

I sent a long email to Mr. David Hall and he forwarded it to you on this matter that went through many of the pluses in doing this. I think it would be usefull to consider, as I am just one of many who would rather pay PCGS for an opinon on a problem coin instead of spending my money elsewhere.

Thanks,

    Hi Jim,

This is a question that has been asked and considered several times in the past. Problem coins can be very complicated to grade and do not lend themselves to a single numerical grade. Net grading is controversial because different people discount problems in different ways. Consumer protection is a big part of PCGS' mission, and steering people away from problem coins instead of toward them seems to be the more appropriate approach.
