<< <i>Anyone catch last night's Mythbusters? One of the myths they test was whether folk in the old west could shoot a hole in a silver dollar. To test it, they used period weapons and !!real!! silver dollars (mostly Morgans, but I think I saw one Seated).
The verdict: BUSTED. Weapons of the mid to late 1800s did not have enough force to put a hole in a silver dollar, but they could make quite a dent. The ones they hit were kinda bowl shaped. However, they did try modern handguns, and these guns were able to put a hole through a dollar quite nicely.
The coin carnage was extensive. Perhaps we need a body like the ASPCA to control numismatics -- "No coins were harmed in the making of this motion picture". >>

PEACE! This is the first day of the rest of your life.
ddink and fuzzball - you guys experienced Henry's Law. The solubility of gasses decreases with increasing temperature. Imagine the force on the container when all of the dissolved gas packed into that itty-bitty space between the cap and the liquid. That's why they call it "pop", I guess. The same principle applies to fish dying in a lake after a long hot spell - they suffocate.
There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. One is by the sword. The other is by debt. –John Adams, 1826

<< <i>The Mythbusters know less about guns than Carolyn McCarthy. I hate watching any of their episodes where a gun is involved. >>
