What the ... ?

Wouldn't eye-appeal alone prevent this from getting a 6? Jeez, and they say the '93 SPs are prone to chipping.

dtsa, that's a nice card. I don't know for sure but it looks like someone is clearing out a few set registries on eBay right now if you're working on that set. Many high end '48 Leaf and T220s with low pops or 1/1.

Just based on the one's I've seen it's a slim margin on those '48 Leafs between a 6 and 7. If the rest of the card is nice you may want to consider resubmitting.

Back to the original topic, I don't care if the rest of that card is gem perfect, no way it gets a 6 just based on the chipping. That looks like borderline paper loss if it isn't already.

Matt, you need to dig a little deeper. Before attending Florida Emmitt was a middleweight champ back in '09. I think he's got a T218 or a Turkey Red. If I see one on eBay I'll shoot you a link.

Edited to add: And I REALLY hope those diagonal lines on the bottom-right quarter of the card are on the slab.

That's not close to 6 standard. I've seen T205 Gold Border 4's with less chipping. Awful.

  • I guess this is why you always buy the card and not the label. This is one card you definitely DO NOT want to crack and resubmit. image

    Four at best.

Here's a counterexample I have that is SGC 5, with almost no chipping...

It seems like tobacco grades are all over the place. It looks like more than "chipping" to me. I thought if there was paper loss it automatically got a grade of 1.

This card has a very small amount of paper loss on the back and it got a 1:

  • Bunker, that's a pretty darn good looking 1. If you get a second, would you mind throwing a scan of the back up? I simply gotta see the amount of paper loss that caused that to come back as a 1.

Did you submit that card yourself? If so, do you remember anything about it before you submitted it (surface, wrinkles, etc.) that would drop the grade but not show up to the naked eye?

If you didn't submit it and bought it already slabbed, I'm willing ot bet you got a good deal for a real pretty card. (At least I hope) image

I bought the card off of ebay for $24.95 plus shipping. I was pretty stoked when I received it. The card is beautiful with vibrant colors. The paper loss on the back is small and doesn't take away from the card imo.

This card in hand looks like a PSA 6 or 7

  • Have you ever thought of resubmitting? If you get the person that did the Sullivan you've got an 8 on your hands. image

Maybe they viewed that as "rough cut"?

That was graded right after a Power Lunch!

  • That Sullivan looks like it's been cracked and resealed.....

    maybe a switch..
  • I do see some frosting but the seller has a very good reputation. If it was cracked it wasn't by the person selling it. I feel very comfortable saying that.

  • This Mays just got graded a 6 for the chipping - and although it's certainly visible in the scan, it's barely noticeable in person.

I could live with the 6 on the Mays. It's a nice card with only the slight chipping.
That Bliss has great eye appeal for the grade. those are the cards I look for to fill my set.
nice pick up on that Bliss.
