That sounds like it would be awesome to excavate that site.

Gotland is indeed famous for this kind of stuff. MD'ing is strictly forbidden on the entire Island (which is a large one btw).
It doesn't stop some people from doing it though...

MD'ing is also "prohibited" in the rest of Sweden, although those restrictions aren't quite as tough as on Gotland.
It's not too hard to get permission to detect sites that aren't historically significant.
