Holiday Gift Exchange

Shall we do another gift exchange this year? It was fun last year. I figure we get the notice out early this year to grab more people.

Let's hear some opinions.

I enjoyed it and would love to participate again. Can you believe it's "holiday time" again!? Where did the year go?
  • Jerster started it last year and it went smoothly. This is the cut and paste from his thread...

Thought it might be a neat idea to get together a Secret Exchange going for this holiday season. What better way to spread a little holiday cheer then to have a PSA card exchange? We all probably have a one or a few extra PSA cards that could be sent to someone else - maybe it would even entice that person to start up a new set! Be it a star card, modern, 50's, 60's, non sport whatever....

Rules would be simple. Leave this option open until 12/10 - if everyone interested would post here or send a PM or email to the person in charge with your name, address, email address, maybe something that you collect or would be interested in as a potential suggestion for your secret santa...they'll assemble a list and assign everyone a secret santa. Let's set a minimum value at $25 - which is probably a good starting point - but if you're feeling generous you could always go higher

Gift should be wrapped in holiday paper, not just thrown in the envelope. Then, we can all open them up on X-mas morn and report back on here with our latest additions to our collections.

Then everyone will receive a PM or e-mail back on the 10th with who they need to mail the card(s) to. They would then have a few days to mail the card(s); and they would still arrive by X-mas, or if you don't celebrate X-mas, you'd still get a holiday gift in the spirit of the season. Shipping costs would be the responsibility of the shipper.

If anyone has any additional ideas, chime inimage!!

    Cheers! Wick

great idea...should be a minimum of $25...not max. If someone wants to send me a $100 card, fine. Perhaps we can set the max when we determine who the exchange partners will be. We need a leader...and I DO NOT nominate Zef, as he already did his part.

No, I'm pretty sure it should be a "maximum" IMO. Above that is where the "if you're feeling generous you could always go higher" comes in to play. Who said there are partners? Just because you get me doesn't me I am going to get you. I'm under the impression it is random who you get (hence, the "Secret" in the Secret Santa part), No? I think you have to set a maximum so the list stays reasonable. Not everyone can afford to participate if "the sky's the limit" so to speak.

It is my intention, ( unless someone objects) to run this little Gift Exchange venture.

On or about the 15th of this month, I will start a new thread, ( since I did not start this thread) , the first post of which will contain the list of folks who have expressed interest on this thread in joining.

Instructions will be posted then about PMing or emailing me mailing addresses, email addresses and areas of interest. DO NOT post them in the open thread.

On or around the first week of december, ( there will be an actual deadline set) I will tally up those who have responded, match up names out of a hat. ( my daughter will do this) and email or pm all with addresses of where to send their gift and the interest of the recipient. It will be understood that all wish lists cannot be filled.

GIFT should be gift wrapped as per the season. The value of the gift should be in the $25 range give or take. The gift is not limited to PSA cards alone...........

The gifts to be sent out by the 10th of december. I will expect confirmation back to me via PM or email of gifts being sent out . I will post this confirmation in the opening post.

Any questions or comments or suggestions??

  • Last year we wrapped the "gift" in Holiday wrapping paper then put it in a priority box or what have you to be mailed.

The recipient then receives a wrapped "gift".

I would hope people would make a long want list in order to help the secret santa see what is convenient for him to obtain. For example, It would make things more difficult if a person listed a PSA 9 Jack Morris rookie as a wish. It is worth about $25, but if the secret Santa is a basketball and football card collector, he may have to shop on ebay for one and that card is not always readily available. There should be a slew of options listed. Of course, if there are too many $7 cards, a secret santa could send 3 or 4 on the list to make the $25 target.

Here is another suggestion: Some of us can fulfill some want lists better than others. Could there be a posting of lets say various wish lists given some kind of alpha numeric code for each (the person's name is not revealed) and see all that the person likes to have. Then a potential secret santa can email Lostdart and say they want to supply wish list A. All Lost dart has to do is then check off the particular list so the public cannot choose it anymore. Lostdart can then proceed to PM to particular secret santa the mailing address.

I assume we put no return address on the package we send.

Will the post office accept a gift wrapped box for shipping with postage and address on it? (perhaps they will make an exception during the holidays.

One person said it already that we should not limit want lists to PSA cards. They could be raw or slabbed by another company. I like that idea since it gives a little more flexibility. Sports cards are fine, but non-sports cards are also fair game I would assume.

    Thats a good idea.

Guys like me would be easy. Everyone knows I am into Emmitt Smith. To make it easier, I as well as alot of other guys have links to their registrys in their sig. That is really helpful to show what could be given as a gift.
