Bear: Highest grade on an MS Silver Eagle for past 4 years or so at PCGS is MS69. Hopefully, PCGS can reasonably address the (unfortunate) spotting problem of MS Silver Eagles in the near future. No other modern coin spots like these MS Silver Eagles do.

Bear: I will make one (and you too) once PCGS gets comfortable with slabbing the coins in the 70 grade. PCGS does not want spotted coins in their 70 holders and I do not blame them. I wonder if the coins can be "coated" with a substance to deter spotting in the future and whether the collecting community would be receptive to such a solution.

Perhaps PCGS will make their holders a holding tank of a small pool of mineral oil that will not evaporate and keep the ASE's sitting in mineral oil which will prevent not only spotting but also toning!
This spotting problem is not from the wash, it's from improper drying (SWAG). The mint needs to address this issue, not PCGS. I'll bet some laborer probably told someone at the mint how to make perfect, spot- free planchets, but the powers that be cannot hear because their egos are like ear plugs. Simple problem, simple fix !
