Opinions on Brandon Jacobs?

I was VERY happy that we drafted him, knowing that Tiki was getting older. I love the guys attitude(verbatim "If I need 3 yards for a first down, I won't be stopped"), and he's so athletic and a non-typical big-guy power running back. Anyone else believe he'll be a star in the future? He certainly is on a team that with such other offensive weapons the opposing defenses can't stack the box against him.

I only know of him what I have seen this year and he sure looks to me to be a future quality starter. I definitely think he is capable of 1300 yards.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

???? Why cant he be a number 1 back? He will be a STUD for years to come

He is a beast. He is also young and stupid. Too much flapping of the mouth at this point. Also, at some point, he will have to stop trying (and succeeding) to bowl over every defensive player in his way. He won't be able to run like that with 20+ carries per game.

Future is bright .... and THE REASON Tiki Barber was named NFC Offensive Player of the month and has ZERO TD's on the season! Give it to Brandon down there!

Dan, the kid is 265 ! That is his game, power running. He also has some speed for a big guy, I believe he will be fine, if you people dont want him he would be a sweet compliment to Maroney.

I agree Dan...the kid sets himself up as a target every week by flapping his yap way too much. Hopefully with age he will mature and learn when to talk trash and when not to.

Other than that, there is no reason he cant be a feature back for years to come.

  • He's easily a #1.

6-4, 265 lbs. 4.37 40 He's a monster who is fast. I've seen about 4 NYG games this year and he'll easily be able to carry the load of a #1. Between him and Michael Turner we're looking at two backup RBs that will be starting and succeeding for years to come (although I don't think with Turner it will be in SDG. I think they've got some other RB down there that they think somewhat highly of.)

huh? .....who said anything about not wanting him?

Oh, and it don't matter how big you are. He can't be a feature back with 20+ carries a week and be a battering ram. He will last 2 years . This year with 5-7 carries a game? Hell yes! Bowl them over the tiny liitle defensive guys image

  • with that kind of running you are totally right he is not going to make it more than a few seasons and theres no way he can bring the same kind of running game to NY as Tiki has...its not going to happen...they will sorely miss tikis 150+ all purpose yard games, even if they never let him hit paydirt!

  • There was a RB who used to derive great pleasure from absolutely punishing defenders. Many defenders (including some HOFers) would later say that they used to hate tackling him and that you always knew the day after when you played against him. After every play the RB would lay on the ground for a moment and slowly get back up as though he was injured. On the next play he would go right back to dropping defenders with vicious blows. I'm talking about Jim Brown. I'm pretty sure he made it longer than 2 years.

No. Nice try. Jacobs won't be able to sustain running downfield with 4 guys on top of him as a featured back. He will eventually have to adjust his running style. And why the comparison with a outright legend?

Maybe because your being too critical. The guy is a beast and he can play smathmouth style football as a featured back, many running backs have had succesfull careers doing this. Whatever your style of play as a running back your body is going to get abused, some handle it others dont.

Rodney Hampton was a smash mouth type back. He was sussessful at it. Jacobs will have to learn that he can't go looking for every hit possible like he does now. Don't get me wrong! It is really really entertaining watching him bowl over guys. Everybody knows its coming and he still just plants guys into the ground.

softparade, I wasn't trying to compare Jacobs level of play with Brown. I was simply pointing out that RBs who enjoy beating up on defenders can be #1 RBs and be successful. Also, Rodney Hampton didn't have the speed that Jacobs has.

At this point, Jacobs needs to become a better receiver. After that I think he'll be an tier 2 RB in the NFL.

Mike Alstott made a great career crushing through defenders...but you won't be an every down back playing that way.

I don't see Jacobs being an every down back, either. ny will need to replace tiki with another slashing style runner, and compliment him with Jacobs.

A tier 2 RB that punches it in almost every time from the two and almost every 3rd and 1? I will take it !!! image Afterall, us Giants fans had to watch the big marshmallow Ron Dayne for too long !

I hear ya .... anyway .... I really think Jacobs will have to alter his running style in order to become a featured back. He sure has the skills to become one. He is fast for his size and can move ....

Tell me about it, Ron Dayne. Whew, by far hit the "hole" softer than any other "power" running back I've seen. I'm glad Jacobs is a Giants, he hits the hole properly and so far I've yet to see a single NFL player that can take him down in a goal line formation.
