Unreal 89 Upper Deck Box!!

Great story I thought I would share this with you all. A friend of mine saw me one day looking through some old baseball cards looking for cards to submit. He said that back in the late 80's early 90's his mother had a store and he would buy a box of cards that didn't sell at the end of the season. So he asked me if he brought them in if I could take a look and see if they had any value. One day he showed up with 2 big boxes of unopened boxes. As I went through them there really wasn't much of any high value 90,91,92 topps, donruss, fleer etc. At the bottom of the first box I did notice a box of 89 Upper Deck with a couple packs missing. After some discussion we decided to open the rest of the packs and see if we could pull a Griffey rookie card to put away for his son. The unreal part was we ended up finding 5 nice Griffey's. They were so nice I said lets send them in and get them graded so they would be protected. Here is what they graded. Not bad for a box we were going to sell for $50.

  • That's great. The fact that his son will one day get them handed down to him really makes for a fantastic story. I'm always happy to hear about stuff like that. Thanks for sharing.

That happened a lot with 1989 Upper Deck boxes. I once saw 11 Griffey Rookies come out of one box. Nice to see it when it happens! Congrats on the grades!

I once saw 36 come out of a box, but it was on shop at home, and it was don west opening packs, mostly off camera......
