Speaking of Tough Deep Cameo's A MAJOR HOLY GRAIL Made

segojasegoja Posts: 6,112 ✭✭✭✭
Made a 1956 Frankie Type I in 68DCAM.....ANACS, but it's an incredible coin.

Pop 1 68 UCAM (all grades) at NGC (You can buy it for $35,000) and pop 4 68DCAM (all grades) most likely some Type II's mis-labeled.

I would link the pictures, but I'm not computure literate enough, however, I do have a link to my website, so that someone smarter than me can post the pics here!

Not trying to hijack your thread but PCGS decided to give this 56 Type 1 Frankie a 67 - no designation... Maybe I should crack it give it a dip bath and send it to ANACS...

Nice score James - I like it! image

So hard to find in cameo, much less dcam. Most cameo examples I have seen show stronger frost on the reverse, yours seems to follow that trend.

I am confused, is the coin still in an ANACS holder, or is it the NGC pop 1 coin? How much is it?

Can't tell a thing with those kind of pictures... probally doesn't show the coin anything like what it would look in hand... my best idea though, is those large frost breaks on the obv...

Proof Franklin's is definitely not my area, but I would have thought that coin should have received a Cameo and not a Deep Cameo designation, due to the uneven frost on both sides. Do you folks in the know think that the piece is a clear cut Deep Cameo? Thanks.

I know the one Rick is pimping for 35k is solid, this one I questioned only cause Ive not seen it in person, the photos can be misleading

    Mark,

The coin is mismatched, which is very common. The reverse is a super duper DCAM, the front (IMHO) is a just made it. That differing contrast level makes judging the frost difficult. When I first bought the set, I thought it had a shot at DCAM...and yes I paid up for the set, not a Madmarty rip!!!!

Several Franklin dates have this mismatching. The most notorious is the 57. 95% of all cameo's I see of that date are slightly to heavily mismatched (either side can come heavy with the other being light) On the 56, it's the reverse that's always the heavy frost.

This coin will for sure being going in for crossover.

BTW I've seen Rick's coin in hand. It is nice. His coin is nicer on the obverse, mine on the reverse...but then again, mine is not $35K, unless you want to pay me that, then it's gone!!!!

I like the coin alot and wish that it were mine (after 7+ years of looking for a raw 56 Type 1, I havefound only 1 and it is brilliant and on a good day could possibly stretch to make a low end 64). I have hunted for CAM/DCAM Frankies for a long time and have seen WOW coins and Ho Hum coins.

Solely based on the picture, I would not think that the ANACs 56 Type 1 would get a DCAM designation if resubmitted. The obverse frost, though even, is not thick and frosty white enough (at least is does not look so from the pic). The reverse frost is more intense than the obverse. The mirrors look deep and black.

I suspect that seeing the coin in hand under good lighting would cause me to go WOW and depending on how nice the frost on both sides are, the coin may be a DCAM. Any way you look at it, that is one fine looking proof Frankie. The Type 1 variety makes in even better.

Great looking coin. Definitely a crossover candidate. Don't forget to send a couple of other coins along with it, if ya know what I mean.image

At PCGS? No. NGC? Possibly, but I could see it in a CAM* holder. Beautiful coin nonetheless.
