3000 Lincoln Cents

Went to the bank today and got 3000 Lincoln cents. Looks though them all... And the tallies:

13 wheat cents, oldest 1926
2 canadian cents
500+ pre-1982 copper cents
1 mint error, a strike through:

Struck through grease, looks like. Overall, I had fun at least. No notable varieties or top dollar coins.

SilverEagles92, that's by far the earliest Lincoln cent I've ever seen!
Anyone got one earlier than 199? imageimage

I was thinking the same! When I first looked at it, I was like "WOAH!" but then I realized what I had. Cool error.

That's sure alot of cents to look through in one day, bet your eyes need a rest! Always nice to hear the results of a bank roll search.

I get $20 worth of cents from the local bank to look through every other week and have had similar results to yours with the pre-82 amount. I guess the couches and piggybanks of America are holding quite a stash of copper.
  • My eyes, and my fingers! I had to scrub them hard to get all the gunk off... They're still kind of raw. It was by far the most fun I've ever had with $20!

For the sake of time, I neglected to mention the long story...

We went to the first bank with $20 to get the cents. Surprisingly, the teller there happened to have 40 rolls right in her drawer. After I picked the good stuff out of those, we went to a CoinStar and cashed the leftovers in. Got back $14. Then we went to 3 more banks. The first one had NO CENTS! The second one had 16 rolls ($8 worth). I still had $6 to use, so we went next door to a Fidelity Bank and got another 12 rolls there. Probably head back to CoinStar tomorrow and start all over again!

  • Did you check for the wide A M's? I like to go through rolls to and have found a few.

I got one made in 193. I'll see if I can find it. If I can, I'll post a pic.

  • Thanks for the report! I will pick some up tomorrow, they will have to open the vault for my half dollar stash, so this will be no extra trouble.

I thought I did, but then I noticed that I might have left out a few dates that I should have checked for. Which years have the abnormally wide AM's? 1999, 2000...?

  • Very cool. I did a search on 10 rolls several weeks ago and found a 1934 wheatie.
