Hello,

In order to receive the First Strike designation, you need to submit your coins in the unopened shipping box from the US Mint (postmarked by the cutoff date) or have them at our facilities within 30 days after they were released by the mint. The Cutoffs for First Strike/20th Anniversary are as follows:

3-coin Gold sets: 10/24

2-coin Unc-W sets: 10/24

3-coin Silver sets: 11/11

The First Strike coins need to go on their own submission form and should contain the following notation on the form: Attention: Bulk. There is an additional $10 fee (per coin) for each of the First Strike/20th Anniversary inserts. You may use the space for the additional services fee, under the heading “D. Fee Calculation” on the submission form (see example below), to indicate these charges in your total. You may submit these coins through any corresponding service level based on the declared value of the coin(s) or your desired turnaround time. In addition, you have the option of having the mint packaging returned to you for an additional $2 shipping and handling fee per box. Please note that while your paperwork from the mint will stay with your order, your mint packaging will be separated from your order and you will be receiving a box that is not necessarily the one you submitted.

Example 1.

D. FEE CALCULATION:

10
X
$ 30
= $ 300

# of coins

service level fee

10
X
$ 10
= $ 100

# of coins

additional services fee

The reverse proof coins also qualify for the “Unusual Finishes” quarterly special, which is free of charge for one coin if you are a current collector’s club member. Please visit the following link for all the coins that qualify for this special: http://www.pcgs.com/pcgs_cc_special.chtml.

You will need to fill out a separate submission form to submit this coin for the quarterly special and include both forms when submitting the unopened shipping boxes from the mint. You are responsible for the return shipping fees and the fees for the first strike / 20th anniversary flip, if you would like that designation as well. You will need to mark the box next to the word “other” and write “Quarterly Special” below it. The fee calculation would be 1 times 0 equals $0 (see example 2 below) and 1 times 10 equals $10 for the first strike designation.

(Fee Calculation for Quarterly Special)

Example 2. D. FEE CALCULATION:

1
X
$ 0
= $ 0

# of coins

service level fee

1
X
$ 10
= $ 10

# of coins

additional services fee

  • So sealed sets postmarked prior to this can be submitted at any time for all the designations?

As it was explained to me by PCGS Customer Service, if you sent the sealed box BY the 24th you're ok. What confuses everyone is whether PCGS is talking about the postmark on the package WE ship to PCGS with the sealed box or the postmark directly from the Mint when they originally sent them to us.

According to PCGS it's the postmark on the package WE ship to PCGS and postmarked by the 24th.

  • This is too confusing. If we have a 3 piece gold set, post marked from the mint prior to Oct. 24th, we still can get 1st strike submission? Each thread and opinion is different.
  • Have all the gold sets now been shipped?thanks, scott.

There is another shipment for gold AGE 3 piece sets due on 11-6
  • aficionadoaficionado Posts: 2,309 ✭✭✭

    This is just stupid.

The policy appears to be: Everytime a coin gets a new/different package, it will get a First Strike designation. Examples here are the Regular Proof and the Unc. "W".

    Summarize:

Regular Proof Silver and Gold - First Strikes are from the Single Proofs released in January AND the 3 piece set released in October.

Unc. "W" Silver and Gold - First Strikes are from the 2 coin set released on Sept. 24 AND the 3 piece set released in October AND (maybe) the singles which will be released in November.

First Strike is lame already, but this just makes it a total joke.

IMHO, I believe there may be three (3) corrections / amplifications to that email from Carolyn (who no longer works at PCGS I believe):

    3-coin Gold sets: 10/24 - actual deadline is 10/25/06

    2-coin Unc-W sets: 10/24 - actual deadline is 10/25/06

3-coin Silver sets: 11/11 - actual deadline for the MS Silver coin is 10/25/06 from the 3 pc. set. So, all sealed boxes dated 10/26/06 - 11/11/06 will receive 2/3 coins in First Strike (i.e. the Proof coins only).

    I hope this helps.

Why wouldn't Carolyn still work there. Her email was sent on the 29th.
IMHO, between her email and the info from CSR reps, hers was the most responsive!

(or 11th or whatever the cutoff date is for your series.).

THIS IS CORRECT! Just spoke to PCGS CS.

You forgot to mention that the hoop that you need to jump through, while holding your right pinky finger in your left ear, must be no wider than 36" in diameter, and absolutely must be blue.

And, why would this be? Proof SAEs have been out for months. So, it isn't because the MS coin has been out for just over a month. If so, then only 1/3 should get the designation (ie.....Reverse Proof).

Sounds like the left hand of PCGS not knowing what the right hand is doing.

There SHOULD NOT be this much confusion! And, it really shouldn't be that difficult (but it is).

<< Not sure. BUT if your unopened box is postmarked before 10/24/06 from the US mint you can have it sent in for first strike indefinately. It is NOT when you send it, but as long as the original postmark is prior to 10/24/06

    Rob >>

    THIS IS CORRECT

Carol is the site adminstrator........... she knows how this works...not let it go.....breathe..............

PCGS Customer Service is consistently telling people that the above is not true. PCGS must receive a box that is postmarked by the 24th, and the mint postmark does not count.

Here is the email and response I just got from PCGS:

    Hi Laura,

I am soooo sorry about emailing you again, There is soooo much bad info about submitting the gold and silver anniversary sets out there, I just want to be sure before I pack mine up.

I understand completely about how to use my free submission voucher.

I need to know that I can still send in my last GOLD 3 pce set postmarked from the mint 10/12/06 for 1st strike and 20th anniversary set designations?

There is so much hype and bad info on the pcgs forums, that I am starting to doubt this myself From my understanding as long as my mint sealed package was shipped to me bfore 10/24/06 it will always be good for 1st strike designation.

Please clarify, so I can get my coins out for grading.

    Thanks so much Robert

    RESPONSE:

You are correct… because your box is still sealed and unopened as they were shipped by the mint, and the shipment date on their fulfillment center label is before 10/24, your coins still qualify for both the First Strike and 20th Anniversary designations.

I hope this clarifies this for you. Let me know if you need anything else.

    -Laura

Already SPLAINED before I could hit enter! !

    image

Cause First Strike was implemented in 2005.

Its the post mark on the package received from the US Mint. And if the postmark does not show, it is the dated packing slip within the package. image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
