There have been many times when i was indecisive on certain coins and was talked out of buying them by someone who did not agree with my opinion---I am sorry i passed on these--1795 Half dime XF condtion $400 --1815 Bust half-VF--$400 -True a long time ago- about 1977-i was talked out it by someone-I wish i had not listed to someone else.
Please tell us what you passed up because of someone else's opinion. Thanks. Bob

I don't let what others say affect my buying of coins, if i like the coin then i'll buy it

  • There have been many times when someone has convinced me not to buy, but it would be hard to talk me into a purchase. Either I like the coin or I don't.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

  • I remember one time I was shopping for a certified Barber half. I asked someone with more years in the hobby and was glad I did. He told me that the coin was likely dipped, though still in a top tier holder. I am glad I asked and glad I passed. This information was exchanged in private, not in front of the dealer. I bought the guy lunch for his opinion and learned a lot in that short time.

Some newer collectors are afraid to look stupid, and some end up with the short end of the stick. There is a learning curve to the hobby, especially regarding grading, and original vs. dipped vs. AT coins. Many newer collectors have gotten so used to market acceptable coins, because there are so many of them in top tier holders, that they have a hard time buying original coins with lesser eye appeal (lesser to their new collector eyes).
