price for an autographed 1951 NY Giants baseball ???

Hey guys,

This is not my area of expertise, any help is appreciated. I am looking to purchase a memorabilia collection and one the the items is an autographed 1951 NY Giants baseball with 22 autographs...signatures include a very nice Willie Mays, Monte Irvin, Hank Thompson...etc.

The ball has the following markings on it...9 inch - 5 ounzes...yarn wound...cork centre and a stamp of a baseball with spalding in the middle.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks,
OB

    First off welcome!

I wish I had expertise - I am an expert eater! image

First, is Durocher on the ball also?

If you can scan - could you show us some areas of the ball.

The Standard Catalog of Sports Memorabilia has a range of 1000-1150$ for the ball.

Of course condition will have a factor.

That's all I can help you with - I know nothing about auto balls.

Please show scans of all palnels...Would be very important to have Bobby Thomson on it as well

Jones, Ray Noble, Clint Hartung, George Spencer...There all really nice except for Durocher which is faint but there.

That's one hell of a nice ball!

What do you plan to do with it?

edit: I really like the Mays sig! It's back when you could actually read "Willie" - superb!

  • When did Mays change his autograph style & why did he do it? Are older versions more valuable? Mike, I see the range you provided, but what I would like to know is what do you figure the market price would be if this piece went to auction? Mastro, Lelands, Ebay...

There looks to be a Jesse Haines autograph below the Monte Irvin signature. That would be a nice deceased hall of fame signature if so... Great ball, I love the old legible Willie Mays signatures...rather than the new chicken scratch stuff.
