Has anyone heard of ACC?

I saw this auction, but before I put my max bid on it, I wanted to get a few opinions. The picture isn't that great (although the split bands on the reverse are clear as day), and I've never heard of ACC? What do the Mercury experts here think??
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Bid plus shipping is more than I would pay for the coin right now.

No returns on "graded coins" + third-world slab = no bid

Read these Terms & Conditions from this guy. ACC guarantees nothing about the grade. It's a raw coin (in a holder) and therefore unreturnable. I have no doubt it may be a FSB. I also guarantee it's probably a cleaned piece of junk.
ACC Atlantic Coast Confererence, they have good basketball teams.

    BUY GRADED COINS
How many times have you purchased a "RAW" coin only to find out it was over graded and you OVER PAID. Then starts the emails with the Seller, etc. It has happened to me too many times. BUY GRADED COINS and GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR!

    CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMERICAN CERTIFIED COINS gurantees the authenticity of this coin for LIFE. ACC coin holders are sonically sealed to ensure the integrity of each coin. ACC will not honor this gurantee if the coin holders are altered, marred or damaged in any way.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    RETURN POLICY
"Buyer's Remorse" has forced us into a defined return policy. Too many new buyers are buying coins, have second thoughts, and want to return them. GRADED coins cannot be returned. RAW coins can be returned PROVIDED the description or the photo does not match the coin received AND the holder has not be tampered with. UNOPENED SEALED PROOF SETS/MINT SETS Cannot be returned. ORIGINAL BANK ROLLS Cannot be returned if opened. REFUND will be given as money back INCLUDING ALL shipping charges.

    FEEDBACK

FEEDBACK RATINGS are more important now than ever before. It sets a "Bench Mark" for Buyers AND Sellers. I will leave you Feedback, PLEASE do the same for me. WE CAN ALL MAKE EBAY A SAFE PLACE TO BUY AND SELL!

Actually, no. image If I thought the coin was worth the money, I'd happily put down my max bid on it, return policy be damned. As long as it's the coin I bid on, I wouldn't bother with a return. But with this coin, the picture's not good enough, and that, combined with a third world slab, gave me pause. If someone here'd said that they'd gotten a few ACC coins and they were happy with them, I'd consider it. (Buy the coin, not the slab, right? image)

Edited to add: Okay, dumb question. I'll go sit in the corner now. image

Wow, "do it yourself" slabing! A great idea!

How many of you would be interested in MBT slabbed coins with an iron clad unlimited fair market value guaranty of authenticity?
  • For most collectors, straying beyond PCGS and NGC is a huge mistake. In my opinion, coins in other slabs, from ANACS, ICG, SEGS and on down must be viewed as raw coins. Yes, I do give ANACS and ICG a little bit more credence than the others, but essentially I view them all as raw coins. Once you get past the five services that I have mentioned, the holder must be COMPLETELY ignored and discounted. The "certification" is absolutely meaningless, and is often completely inaccurate, if not downright fraudulent (in my personal opinion).

    Best,
    Sunnywood

Well said Sunnywood. I'd add that 95-99% of all coin buyers
(dealers, collectors, hoarders, investors, Joe Public, etc.) are not capable of evaluating the coin in the slab. This makes even purchasing ANACS, ICG somewhat risky imo for most buyers.

I've heard of ACC, but only as an Athletic Conference. Caveat Emptor. You know this slabber is up to no good. Go ahead and tell me he is doing a service for the hobby. Now if one of the top graders in the country went out and started selling his own slabs, I'd at least know where to start from.

Grades range from PO 01 to MS/PF 70, but I'm considering a 100 point grading scale too.

You would be entitled to the MBT grading guaranty--I will regrade for a modest fee and, if I disagree with my own grading, I will pay you the FMV of the differential (hmmmm, sounds familiar doesn't it)!

  • ACC is a "do it yourself" slabber (Coinsbyhucky) who has been active for over three years now, in fact close to four years. They have had three different slab varieties during that period and it appears they seriously intend to remain at it since on this version they have footed the bill for the expense of injection molds and are no longer using generic shells.

Coinsbyhucky!? I have actually bought some coins from Hucky in NGC holders and was very pleased. They appeared to be PQ or upgrade candidates and when they arrived, they were. Sold both for a decent profit. Sort of surprised to hear they are involved in ACC.

  • Not "involved", they are ACC. Just like Abon is SGS. But what does it matter if they own the service. The question is, do you agree with their grading? If you do then buy the coin,if you don't then pass. Same aice I would give no matter who graded the coin.
