Will Psa Every Grade the thick cards?

Just wondering, because as of Now BGS holders suck arse and the cards are less protected in their holders.

    Did bgs change their slabs?

If so, the slabs they used before protected cards the best out of any. The mylar sleeve is unatractive but worked well.

Maybe Carol will provide some more insight, but she has said that they are working on bring to us the ability to slab thicker cards. I assume they will use the holders from their new graded pack line. She has said in the past that she will keep us informed. I am sure she will as she has been on top of all the latest news in getting it to us before the official announcement.

  • If any of you guys graded Exquisite(this is all i collect) and get them back from BGS you will be pissed, The holders are about 3x as big as the cards and they just move around in that sleeve they put them in, they get in worse condition with dings in corners. I personally will not send another 1000 dollar Modern card to them till they figure a way to make the holder fit. IM hoping PSA makes a holder that is tight around the card and doesn't move.

Hmmmm... I just sent a small order to beckett (all modern) that included 1 exquisite, and 1 thicker SP Authentic GU'd Auto. I figured they were my only choice at the moment, so why not? I guess I can/will judge for myself when they are returned.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

    WOW! ... uhhh... H-A-R-D C-O-R-E !!!!

Ya... the card does look to have a little too much room in that slab. It actually looks like it has so much room that it's not even coming close to sitting flush in the slab when on it's side!

... damn! .... well, I guess I too will be pissed when I get my cards back. image

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

  • I to am hoping they come up with a thicker card case as I am collecting the "Ice Scripts" cards that are on plexi glass. I guess till then the magnetic close cases are my only choice. Oh well in time maybe.

i agree, i just sent in 2001 absolute memorabilia cards and they came back in these awfully large, thick cases, with the card moving all over the place...i send these cards back, paid a $5 reslabbing fee to have them placed in the old holders, and they were reslabbed in the same big new holders...they dont stack with old holders, they are flimsy and the card moves around, and they feel like you can put your thumb through the middle....very dissapointed since i have most of the 2001 Playoff set in regular holders and now a few in these thick monsters,,,yuck................................

some say the BGS holders are stronger but so what, who tries to break the card while holding it in their hands...the most glaring difference to me and the reason i like psa holders is because of the optical clarity of the plastic itself ..when you look at a BGS card, you see the plastic first, then you notice that card...when you look at a PSA card, you see the card first, not the plastic.....also the BGS plastic DULLS the look of the card...the psa holders allow the true colors and brightness show through..

.when you hold the same 2 cards next to each other. one in a PSA, the other in BGS, the difference is obvious!

as for the thick PSA holders, JOe orlando wrote to me saying they are coming soon, the first step was the wax pack holders, then the thick holders......
  • While I do like the look of BGS slabs better for modern cards I'm not fond of their new thick holder. I slipped in one jersey card in my last sub to see how the new holder worked. The holders are just too big for the average jersey card. The card moved around a bit in the slab but the sleeve would most likely keep the corners clean. One poster mention how BGS slabs s"show" the plastic. Well, these thick holders REALLY show the plastic. The holders do not fit in your typical graded card sleeve either. The thick BGS holder looks best suited (and would probably work grreat) for the really thick cards like those 2003 UD Portraits or those Topps Gallery cards that contained coins from the respective player's country. Unfortunately BGS took the one size fits all attitude with these and many collectors will be disappointed. The fact they don't stack well with the normal holder is also a disappointment. I'll definately wait and see what PSA an come up with. Please, no one size fits all!

  • Hello everyone,

I just wanted to pass along some exciting news.

PSA should have a "super thick" holder ready within a few weeks for the thicker, modern-era cards that we have not been able to encapsulate in years past.

We have been able to alter the pack holder, by customizing the internal portion of the holder, for these special cards. For those who have seen the pack holder, it is arguably the nicest holder we have - providing a premium home for these unique cards since they are often more valuable than other mainstream modern issues.

An official announcement will go out in the coming weeks.

We hope you enjoy the new holder and we are excited to offer the service.

    Take care,

    Joe Orlando

nice, I have some Farve Inserts from Finest if intrested, one is /50 and the other one is numbered and then a base insert. PM if you can use them.
  • Yes thanks Joe!!.....This means the PSA Pujols 2001 Registry will be complete! There were three 2001 issues that were too thick to fit into present day PSA holders, and set seemed incomplete without them! Adding these last three issues will bring the final tally to 43 cards in the 2001 Albert Pujols Rookie Card Registry.....

I would like to Welcome Three Deserving Issues and like to say Thank You for Politely Waiting for this Special Day....
