Friday's Hot-Topic™

"PROMOTING & SELLING COINS AS INVESTMENTS THAT WILL CERTAINLY RISE."

Investing. People love to say what they think a market it going to do. It could be gold, or it could be stocks, it doesn't matter - they love to guess and time the market.

Coins. People love to say what they think a given type of coin is going to do in the market. Some say they know how to make money guessing at it. That leads to my point and the Hot-Topic™ for today.

Coin Dealers who promote and sell coins on the premise that their value is likely to rise. They tout coins as investments - typically, of course, the ones they own or are selling.

QUESTION:
Do you think a line is crossed when people say things like "Silver is going to double by next year! Buy these Eagles now while you can!" or do you accept that as perfectly fine?

Thanks,

- Frank

That's just marketing hype and perfectly fine to me. If anyone thinks that anyone can guarantee a return or predict the markets, they have much bigger problems.

  • Usually, with a line like that I would go and buy elswere. What else would they exaggerate about?

No, they are protected by the Constitution; however, schools should do a better job of educating people.

  • Thanks for the comments so far guys. But what about the people in posiitons of infuence or power that mislead others? I know it is the buyer's responsibility, but what about the ETHICS of the seller who is recommending a coin for investment while not making the realities of the marketplace clear? If someone came to me for investment advice and wanted to invest in coins, I would feel obligated to at least first make sure they believe they have the bigger basics taken care of and some wisdom injected into their overall holdings.

Yes. They cross the line that separates the credible from the effective.
