this was found Oct. 9th 06 today was def. strange... first is there any counterfeit coin experts out there??? I found a piece today i was shocked to see one dime and an "O" when I cleaned it off... its comes up 48 VDI on my XLT... i thought is was a lead slug until the mud came off ... heres a pic of it seated dime... its way bigger and but you can clearly make out the markings 1845-O one dime but its def. pewter!!! hehe
UPDATE:i love the fake dime...Gerry Fortin the leading expert in seated dimes from http://p104.ezboard.com/bseateddimes is gonna use it in his seated dime counterfeit data base..he just told me!!!! I was also told that when it was made it probably looked just like a seated dime but when pewter corodes and becomes porous that it expands and that could account why it looks bigger hh all

I think contemporary counterfeits like that are just about as cool to find than a real coin of the same type. Cooler, in some ways, from the point of intrigue.
