What is the strangest packing job....

you have seen. Whether it was something you packed and sent or something you received via ebay.

I once shipped a electric aftermarket cooling fan for a car in a pizza box. The buyers feedback he left for me said "excellent packing job" I guess he liked pizza image

I received a raw Emmitt card today in a bubble mailer with only bubble wrap around it . No cardsaver, no cardboard image

I got a couple envelopes from a seller whose idea of packing was
Place card on middle of large piece of cardboard.
Place 1985 Topps 3-D card on top of card, completely covering it.
Tape each side of 3-D card to cardboard.
    Place in manila envelope.
    Seal.

Each time, the card arrived all right, but the 3-D card had an interesting new topography.

Too many to list - I get cards folded into a paper towel, cards placed loosely in an envelope with a prayer to "Please don't bend" on the outside, stacks of "mint" cards placed loosely in a box with styrofoam peanuts.

I still can't figure out the purpose of taping the card holder to the inside of the envelope! And then there are those folded corregated holders that are all sticky on the inside. You have to peel it apart - I got a card yesterday that was placed in one of those in a piece of baggy - I don't think I damaged it, but what are some of these people thinking?

I once got a card that was protected by a PSA graded Canseco rookie on either side. The card I bought was $12. How the mighty have fallen.

I have you all beat. This is a computer and not a card though.

Full sized desktop 18 in X 9 in X 18 in Tall. Big item, needs some solid packaging to not damage it. I worked for an assisted living company. (this will make sence soon). We give all of our clients a fitted box to ship the computers back so they don't get damaged.

This compter came in undamage but cost well over $200 to ship UPS ground from Kansas to Wisconsin weighing only 20 some pounds. Why so expensive you ask? Well the user packed the box with Depends at $5 each and put in well over 30 of them. I just had to laugh. We took pictures and it ended up on the hall of shame board.

I bought an N173 on Ebay once, and the guy didn't have anything to ship it is. So he put the card in the middle of a 70-year-old book. He put the book in a plastic bag, taped it completely shut and then shipped it to me like that.

A pretty ingenious alternative, i thought.

I received a comic book (via eBay) wrapped and shipped in only newspaper... the comic was VG, so it was ready for the rough journey.

Marc- did you launch a project asking everyone to send Jay Wolt a graded card, and address and stamp the slab? As I recall he got a few.

    two times come to mind...

I bought an '89 Panini REDS team set... the cards came in a plane-white envelope without any sort of cardboard/penny-sleave/protection whatsoever. Oh ya, and if you're not aware of these cards, they are extremely thin and very crease-sensative!

... and the all-time cake winner for me though... I had a card sent to me in another standard unpadded run-of-the-mill white envelope that was SCOTCH TAPED to a piece of cereal box!!! Both of these were off of Naxcom.com ... and they do not rely on any sort of feedback. Needlesstosay, I've NEVER ordered from that site again.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

    I have two nominees:

    1. A 1959 PSA 8 Koufax was dropped in a padded envelope with absolutely no additional protection. Fortunately it was OK.

    2. DALLIEDOG wraps his raw cards so tightly, and with so much paper, that it is a major production to get them out. It takes me several minutes.

Thanks, Anthony, for the reminder. I think it is time to revisit that experiment, don't you think?

Here's my contribution to this discussion.

Heritage cards sent priority in an oatmeal box.
Box was reinforced with two top loaders taped to one of the sides.
Hopefully new paper towels as packing material.
Beat up cracked hard plastic two-piece box to hold cards. Plastic box was to small to hold them so it was taped shut.
Plastic card box enclosed in plastic sandwich bag.

Started a thread on eBay when I got them as a joke and the seller was not happy with that discussion. My main point was if something was being sent priority why not send it in a free priority box instead of what it was sent in. Lot's of arguing back and forth with seller between various board members and finally saying that he was blocking me from bidding on anymore of his auctions.

I did leave this positive feedback Packaged Poorly/Sent In Oatmeal Box And Broken Plastic Case/However,Cards Did Arrive Fast,Safe And Secure/CardsA+/Packing F

Some of the cards had some corner damage but they could have been that way out of the pack so didn't argue that.

Here is a picture of the box and contents.

I think so. With Jay's son back from Afghanistan and the younger one not yet in Iraq I think he needs a little excitement.

I sold a '54 Red Heart Dog Food card to King Kellogg a few years ago. Since he was always sending out Kellogg stuff to other collectors I figured I'd package with milk bone dog biscuits instead of bubble wrap. What I didn't realize was there was a thread a few days earlier about PSA slabs being shattered in transit, and when the box rattled he nearly had a heart attack thinking his $400 card had been destroyed.

I once received a big package that included 4 rolls of paper towels as packing. They were still in the wrappers, so we used 'em!

    Gripes

1.) Top loaders taped to cardboard. A BI*** to get the card holder or card out without damage
2.) Top loaders with loose cards but no tape so the cards slide out the top in the package
3.) Sending a envelope to a PO box that is oversized, with it stamped "DO NOT BEND", well the PO doesnt bend it in half but they still try to get it in your box.
4.) Sending a loose card, no penny saver either, in the middle of a regular sheet of white paper; inserted into a regular business sized envelope; 39 cent stamp. I was charged over $4 for shipping.

    Likes:
1.) Top loaders taped at the top, in padded envelope.
2.) Cardsavers taped at top, supported by thick white cardboard on both sides, in a padded envelope.
