Have you ever thought about how thin the demand for your specialty is?

The US population just passed the 300 million mark. It passed the 200 million mark back in the late 1960's. In spite of this huge population many numismatic specialties have very, very few participants. In fact, as a percentage of the population, coin collecting has probably declined over the past 40 years.

Any thoughts on the future?

Absolutely. The Tylenol PM is kicking in now so I'll choose not to elaborate. imageimage
  • What does percentage have to do with demand?

Being an IKE collector I know all about thin demand. image

Thin demand? I'm telling ya, I get no respect.

Last night my Heritage internet bid went to the floor and even the crickets weren't chirping.

  • I'm not worried about how many people want my coins. Buffalos and Mercs will always have a strong following. Haven't had a problem selling any of them yet.

There are very few people that share my niche of numismatics, I think about it weekly and do what I can to increase that number.

I enjoy collecting coins and the fewer collectors there are for my coins, the better.

  • It doesn't look very thin from my porch. Then again, all my competition posts here, and some of them are pretty dedicated to making sure I don't get any more cherries. image

I believe it was 1967 when the US population reached 200 million. Are there really 1/3 more people in the US since then? I guess it
is true. Areas I remember being corn fields etc. back then are now covered by subdivisions, shopping malls etc. When I think about it
it does seem more crowded around here.

No. There are 1/2 more people in the US since then.

Right you are, for some reason I was dividing 300 by 3 or something. Never been good at math. image
  • Mine isn`t thin. Rather looked down upon as plain ugly. I love Peace Dollars and don`t care what the nay-sayers think about them. image The only one whose Eagle isn`t a macho " Beat the living crap out of you " kind of stance or symbolism. image It already beat some stuff up and now is content. Guess it does make it a specialty when I think about it. imageimage

I wish there was little demand for what I collect. Since I tend to be mostly a buyer and not a seller, that would work well into my favor.
