Why are the Cardinals described this way?

Why is the Cardinals called "the worst team to be in the World Series" rather than describing them as "a great Cinderella type story". I mean, if the Marlins would have squeaked in with the Wild Card and then won the World Series, they would be described that way.
Is there really that much hatred for the Cardinals? Just kind of curious as to everyones thoughts on this.

I think that 'honor' goes to the padres when they made it a few years back, and were promptly crushed in the series.

Doesn't matter now, though.
I also said just before the series started that the red birds always give the mets a run for their money and was hoping that they (mets)could pull it out. this cardinals team is stronger then the record indicates. pujols and edmond and rolen were all out during the season for stretches at a time.
what I do find interesting is that both teams (tigers and cards) have losing records after the allstar break for the first time ever.
the cards are a class team deserving of their ws appearence.

I don't know what you're talking about Axtell...
The Padres went to the World Series in 1998, when their regular season record was 98-64!
They were 92-70 in 1984 when they also went to the World Series.

Of all people, Jim Layritz (sp) freakin crushed the ball
The Cards this year were 83 and 78.
like always he adds nothing to a conversation other then being wrong and or confrontational.

edited to add: The best team to NOT have made it to the WS is the hapless 01 M's who after winning 116 games promptly lost to a much superior Yanks team.

<< <i>That '98 team was sick! We faced Brown twice in 3 games, Hitchc ock in another and then Hofmann coming in to save.

Didnt it come out Jim Layritz was a big steriod user ?

If so, I guess he used the wrong ones.
