World series in late Oct. not fair to fans or players

As the weather tends to turn colder it is not nice for the fans and teams to have to suffer playing in cold
conditions in nighttime games in northern climate cities. I would like to see the season shortened by
2 weeks at least so the series could end before the snow starts to fly (predicted for Detroit this weekend).

Of course the greedy owners (and maybe some players) would not want to see the revenue lost from
playing fewer games (I doubt any of them would suffer serious financial hardship over it though).

Speaking of money, whatever happened to the classic day game in the World Series?

It became extinct due to the pressure for higher nighttime TV ratings.

I agree with you. You have the same effect starting the season as you do ending the season. Games played the first week or two of April have cold as a constant threat -- too bad for players like Pedro Martinez. The old 154 game schedule would serve well for many reasons.
  • I agree also, it would be nice to have the World Series played a few weeks earlier.

Who says you need to reduce the number of games played to have the season end earlier. Whatever happened to the day/night double-headers? I loved those! Play a few during the course of the season and bingo you are playing the WS before Snow season.
Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards
  • If I'm to understand correctly, you are a Green Bay Packers fan complaining about the cold weather in Detroit in October? I see lots of bare arms on the players tonight. What exactly is the problem?
  • I like it being in October especially when the World Series has that colder weather. It's perfect playoff weather, and I doubt many players complain about it. When I played sports back in my school daze, I hated the summer football training and camps. Nothing like practicing for 14 hours a day in 85-100 degrees. Different sport, but I can't jump on this weather bandwagon(if any of you have watched some espn tv shows, this has been discussed the past day or two).
    Collecting;

    Orlando Cabrera rookies

    NJ Nets
    NJ Devils
1950s-1960s Topps NY Giants Team cards

Looking for Topps rookies as well.

Two games for the price of one? That means less revenue to the teams, with money being the
be all and end all for sports these days I think double headers are pretty much a thing of the past.

Being in the world series I wouldn't expect the players to complain that much but I'm sure it is not that
great for either the fans or the players.

Ask the players and fans how much they enjoy night games in early April in northern climate cities and you
    might get a different answer.

I have a luxury viewing box at Lambeau field so I don't worry about these things. image
  • i actually enjoy watching a game if its chilly and brisk....
it certainly better than being at Fenway when its 100+ on the field! like in this picture here:

(its worse when Fausto Carmona BLOWS yet another lead!) ah...we could have SWEPT the sox at fenway!!! regardless, it was simply amazing to see Ortiz win with a walk off homer...ive never felt the crowd so electric at any park like at Fenway when Ortiz bats with the game on the line.
