Are these common?

The lines in the gouge look like they came from a grinder. The gouge extends well into the wing.

Helluva set of shots - you can even tell the direction of the fracture of the die. What do you use for a 'scope?

That's one of the coins I'm focused on finding, and I haven't seen one available in the last year.

Looks almost like strong denticles impressed outside the wing or bolt threads as it is so regular. That regularity extends into the wing. Any sign of such impression on the obverse, perhaps at the base of the hair above the 3rd right star? If the dies did strike a bolt without a planchet, that might be a sign or the obverse could have been destroyed and discarded as a result. If a planchet was present, it would be a major strike through but probably not around anymore. In that event, only the one die (the reverse evidently) would be impacted significantly. It really looks a lot like a screw or a bolt got in there on a strike and not a die gouge. I think the description is wrong based on what I see. Anyone agree?

Not super common, not super rare. I don't think I have any in my "to unload" box. It does sort of look like it was hit by a bolt or grinder. The striations are in the opposite direction of the gouge.
