You're welcome, but you should thank RYK too, even if to a much lesser extent.

Mark, you only gave him the cheerleading, promotional information on Battle Creek. If JJM wants to get down and dirty, he will have to read the forum threads.
Disclosure: I own two Battle Creek Morgans for my son.
<< <i>So only 1400 total , eh ????? >>
I believe that is the approximate number that received the "Battle Creek" pedigree.

I was going to hold out and charge a pretty penny for a condensed, but very spicy version.

JJM, while there are 1,400 BC pedigree coins extant, in actuality there were roughly 875 BC coins sold in the 4 main BC auctions. The other 525 coins were totally lame and the only reason they got the star was that NGC had some sort of financial incentive to give them the star and the pedigree (that is my understanding, but I may be wrong). Of those roughly 875 better coins roughly 300 were deemed worthy of being sold as individual coins in the auctions. The other ~575 coins were sold as pairs, sometimes to match obverse/reverse toning, sometimes to try and lump a not very attractive coin with a decent one. Of the 300 individual lot coins there were 99 coins that passed the $1,000 barrier with the juice, e.g. the real top of the line coins.
U.S. Type Set
Not a collection, a pile of coins placed in tubes and sent to NCG. Just remember their toning is
what ?

Actually it was a group of coins taken out of sealed bank bags and then placed in tubes for submission to NGC.

Pardon me, but coingame2000, Mike deFalco stated that he spent $200,000 of his own money buying the Battle Creek Morgans and stated for a fact on 2 different occasions that NGC opened the Mint sewn bags themselves.
What's this about being opened by somebody else in submitted in tubes?

Can you prove this?
Edit to add, Dog, the story apparently changed and it was agreed upon that they got submitted in tubes. Although all along it was stated as fact that NGC plucked them right out of the sealed bags. Now, what really probably makes folks wonder is on NGC site, they show a mint bag advertising these Morgans. So it looks like they took them outta the bag, but I guess they didn't because the story now says they were sent in tubes.
(stman scratches head)
<<<Check out Teletrade auction 2280 for some Battle Creek Morgans. >>>
That must be the junky leftovers. Lot 4165 isn't even toned.

Can you prove this? I was on vacation when the BC threads hit the boards, I did a search and read up on them later and all I understood was a bunch of hooey-pooey with 500 experts that had never even seen one calling each other trolls. A highly respected dealer did PM me a while ago to tell me there are 20 coins in a tube, not 10 like I said.
