Has anyone signed up for the Early Bird feature on the Coin Rarities website?

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
I was taking a look at their site, and I just noticed that they have a new Early Bird feature (maybe it's old, but it is new to me). Here is the description per the site (pasted below) as well as a link. I usually sign up for these sorts of things because it is nice to get first shot at new inventory. I get about 50 emails a day from Heritage and DLRC, so hopefully Coin Rarities will be more judicious with the number of emails that they send.

Goose - I figure its going to take us a little while to get the bugs out. Frankly, most of our time was spent making the 'Early Bird' button look cool.

Was that image from our website archives? I remember us handling that coin, but it was a while ago.

That coin has the distinctive toning found on the coins from the Gardner collection -- a museum that stored their entire collection of US coins by date in Wayte Raymond holders for about 50 years. The collection was sold by Stack's about 1-2 years ago. We bought several other early silver coins (incl. the 1796 25c) that had the same toning pattern. That was a great sale.

That's because you erroneously signed up for the Early Bird feature, instead of the Early Goose feature.

Yes, it was somewhere in your picture files. Thanks for sharing that info on the history of it. image Is it a disme or a half disme? If it's not too much trouble and doesn't violate any confidentiality can you shed some light on the value of that 1797 Draped Bust?

    Hi Dog:

No trouble at all. It was a 1797 Small Eagle Draped Bust 10c, JR-2 die variety, I believe. A really sweet Choice VF coin that as I recall we sold to a collector building a PCGS Registry set of Copper through Gold Type Coins. It really did look just like that picture.

Coins in that auction were not cheap, but then again, I guess we shouldn't have expected them to be.

Thanks for bringing back a fond memory.

    Rgds,
    Dave W.

Oh gawd you got me squirming on the floor Dave! Yeah, nothing in 1797 is cheap and that disme is cool as hell!!! Wish I would have been at that auction.
    Thanks man!
