1952 Topps Mantle

Here is my situation. I have a 1952 Mantle BVG 1.5. I had this graded before I knew better. Now, I am stuck. Should I keep it as is, or put it in a PSA slab? My membership just expired and I probably won't be renewing for a while. Any suggestions? BTW, what do you think it would be worth at that grade?

From what I've seen, low grade examples of this card can vary quite widely in value. A nicely centered 1.5 that is free of brutal creases but has significant corner wear will be worth substantially more than a 1.5 with serious creases and very bad centering. I can't give you an estimate at all, but I'm sure we'd all love to see a scan!
  • Get it put in a psa slab! after that , welcome to the varsity.
  • or you could just give it to me and you won't have to worry about it at all.......lol

I'd say the card would cross to PSA 1 with little to no hope of a 2. 707 Sportscards prices their PSA 1s from $3000-5700.

it may get a psa 1MK with the tape on it. if selling i'd keep it the way it is.
  • Because of the registry, the card will be more attractive to buyers in a psa holder. Nice centering and corners.

Nice card despite the flaws. I don't mind a "key" card like that if the face isn't messed up. You'll receive a nice price for that card.

I would suggest leaving it in the BVG holder whether you plan to keep or sell the card. It will likely grade a PSA 1 MK or a PSA 2 MK at best. As a general statement, for low grade cards, the selling price is usually dictated by how well the card presents in the holder.

Keep it in the BVG holder. A 52 Mantle can sell in any of the four reputable grading company's holders.
  • I would say your best bet is going to a show that PSA is attending and get the card in a PSA slab. ColleSystem made a good point that it being in a PSA holder may make it more desirable for Registery participates. Also, depending on where you are looking to sell the card, PSA is a far better key word then BVG.
