Interesting - Yankees Prospect Philip Hughes member of Becket Boards

Interesting read. Some of it is very childish, though.

Agreed, but he did answer ALOT of questions. Plus, he actually opened up the can of worms. Maybe he wanted to be found out.

Im a young guy that grew up slangin' rock and now I collect cards.....and slang rock.
I am actually Allen Iverson AKA Jewelz on my record label
  • Notice how when people found out who he was or was not, now they want his autograph, want to know if he gets fan mail directed to the team stadium, etc, etc, etc. And I bet if he said he does not sign, everyone will chime in about him being an ingrate professional ball player.

I went to a party some 5 years ago, that happened to have Kirk Malby there, many of you would say "who." I never bugged the man for an auto, worst thing that happened was myself running out of beer, and Kirk giving me a couple of his so my buzz can linger.

Having to prove who you are, who really cares?

I read the whole thing as it happened (thought it was BS at beginning, oh well), got a trip out of all the "What do you think of (insert minor league player's name here)?" questions.

And zef, their sig lines did change, a coincidence I'm sure.

I thought the guy trying to get in touch with torre was funny. If his mom was nearly engaged to his mom like he said, i think he just might remmeber her. Not to mention she should have some sort of old yankee contact info since he was obcviously the coach there at that time also. That was just a horrible attempt to make up a story to get in touch with Torre.

    Wow, checked out the thread.

Unbelievable the amount of people ready to bow to his feet just for the chance to say you talked to a #1 draft pick over the internet. Cool!!

No wonder the guys who make it are overwhelmed by guys wanting autographs or a chance to shake their hand, just so they can name drop at their own party of five guys later that month.

I'm shaking my head in amazement.

Actually, it is pretty cool. Its not every day a potential big leaguer chats it up on a mudane message board full of losers who collect sports cards. Sorry you fellas see different image Its nice to know a player or two have the same moronic interest we do.

With all due respect soft, you fail to see my point.

A board full of losers?? I'm hardly a loser. And Hughes and the other players?? They're not losers either. They are people, just like you and me. Some like sportscards, some like hunting, some like motorcycles, some like Carribean vacations. We all put our pants on one leg at a time.

What's not cool is the bombardment of messages to a guy on an internet message board that makes the sender feel like they're special because they "talked" to a draft pick.

I respect the guy. But no more so than I respect you and your posts. JMO.

With the most due respect back at ya shawn ..... the loser comment was in jest.

And why would you possibly care about guys you are ASSUMING feel special chatting with Philip Hughes? So what. Why is that not cool? Are you uptight? I understand your"he is just like me and you" angle. But in reality, that is not true. Not true at all.

Uptight Soft? I didn't think so, but maybe. image

You're right. He's not like us in reality. I'm a contractor, you're a salesman, he's a draft pick trying to make it in the majors. Seems we're all guys who like cards though, so we're similar in one way.

If the guy PM's you and/or wants to meet you, or talk, or trade....that would be cool.

I was only amazed at how a thread suddenly becomes 30 pages long from every guy on earth bombarding him with questions, on the surface just to tell his buddies, "Hey guys, I talked to Phillip Hughes!!" 2 to 1 says 75 percent of the guys messaging him had never heard of him before today.

I'm shaking my head at what a lack of privacy it must be to be in that position. He's just a prospect for the Yankees, imagine what Jeter must go through.

If you feel cool chatting with him online, have fun with it. Who am I to say? If it is cool to say you chatted with him online, I guess I'm missing the picture. Not trying to judge you Soft, I just don't get it.

Bottom line is ..... we spend all of this time collecting cardboard with pictures of athletes in funny uniforms on them. Alot of us have done this our entire lives. It is a obsession. So when one of those guys who wears one of those funny uniforms and appears on that cardboard happens to drop in it obviously would cause quite a stir. I also never said I FEEL COOL asking the guy a question. I said IT WAS COOL that he is there. Big difference image

Time for Matt to chime in with the cowbell.

Okay Dan, it IS cool that he chimed in. But it shouldn't be surprising. I'm sure he's not the only one, and I can see why the others would want to stay incognito. By the response to the thread, I can't tell if he was drafted for the majors or is pitching in the game tonight. It seems overwhelming.

I may be in the minority but I think it's awesome that he's posting. People today bish and moan how players don't socialize with fans anymore. The only time you get to exchange words with them is when you pay for an autograph.

Well, he's doing it because he wants to and it's free of charge.

    Props to you!

Through The Mail---You send a card, etc. in a letter with SASE to a player, and hope it gets signed.
