Has anyone here attempted to hammer their own coins?

Does anyone know of a good book or website on how hammered coins were made?

I'm looking for a 'how to' guide.

    A friend, my son, and I went to a historical reenactment this past weekend. www.marchingthruhistory.com Afterwards, we were discussing Roman technology and hammered coins came up. We thought it would be interesting to learn about the subject and even try it if possible.

    I've seen street vendors hammer out coins before, for tourists.

    If you can find it - Zecca - The Mint of Venice in the Middle Ages by Alan M. Stahl. It has a very detailed description of the technology.
