1986 Topps supers

Is this the norm for getting these graded??? needless to say I am very disappointed...the cards were all from a case I just opened....makes one wonder did the cards get dropped on the floor or messed with during mailing.....it will be awhile before I send anymore in....

wow alna...if these were from the scans you posted previously, i'd agree with the spider creases... i thought you were sitting on 9s from the scans.

    Thanks,

need your help...what are spider creases? Before I sent the cards in I concentrated on the black borders since the cards looked pretty clean......any help would be appreciated since I have the rest of the case left and may be tempted again.....

What size are these cards considered to PSA? What service level did you use? I had some I wanted to send in.

    Thanks,
    Derek

    Derek-

They are Supersize cards, being 5"x7" each. I think currently [Sept. and Oct.] they can be submitted to PSA through the $13/special.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

The cards were submitted under the supersize $13 special. I discovered that the corners of everyone of the cards that were graded 5 or 6 were dinged....either they got dropped during shipping or I was totally out of it when I put the submission....here is one of the 8's. I shrunk it so let's see how it comes out.

does anyone know if posting the bigger picture is exceeding any limitations for the thread???? If not I'll load the Seaver and Mattingly for everyone to see.

    Al,
The scans you post should be fine. I've loaded lots of large scans back-to-back on these boards and they seem to handle it.

As far as your grades, one thing is clear: the larger size the card, the more surface area that can go wrong. I'm toying with 84D champion cards (3x5"), which isn't as big as your 5x7", and the amount of defects I'm finding just on edges alone is amazing. On a 3.5" card, ya got 3.5" per edge of potential area to be damaged. But your doubling that size and therefore doubling the chances of finding problems. Add the upper black borders on those '86s and I can see where they would be an absolute bear!

    Hey all,

I am new to PSA and looking for help with submission do's and don'ts.

My childhood collection spans 1970 to 1987 for baseball and football. I used to sell at shows in the late 80s and early 90s, but have been out of the loop since 1992. I have an estimated 400,000 cards.

The SMR report helps with the standard issue cards, but where do you all look for a price guide for the oddball stuff (like the oversize cards)? I have a bunch of the 1984 Topps Super, 86 & 87 Fleer minis and other similar items.

I just want to be cost effective (sale price is greater than the grading fee plus shipping) when/if submitting.

    Thanks,

    Alfonz24

Alfonz - please look at Ebay for prices realized on some of those issues. An entire unopened box of 1984 Topps Super would not run you more than $20, with shipping. Fleer Minis can often be had for $1-$2 per set. Please look at Ebay for some pricing guidelines. Grading will only help you on modern cards, most often only when the cards grade PSA 10 GEM MINT, which is a very small % of cards produced.

Grading is becoming counterproductive unless you're a megasubmitter on modern even if you get PSA 10s. I just picked up 16 or 17 modern (late '80s and early '90s) PSA 10s of HOFers for $4 each plus shipping from 4SC.
