Where would you buy GOLD (1oz) Australian Lunar coins?

I had a place, a few years ago, that I bought a couple from. But, their prices are still reflective of gold being over $700/oz. image

Aside from the ebay crapshoot, where would be good to buy from? (Also, assuming buying in 1oz or 2oz lots. Not more than that.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I don't think ebay has to be a crap shoot. Some of the dealers on there have been around a long time and I have had good dervice from them. Jim_teri springs to mind.

You are right about the prices trending high for those Oz lunars though, high demand I guess

Crapshoot isn't meant to be completely negative. I've bought a few lunar gold on there.
But, it is a crapshoot on what is available and when. Not all of them are available at any one time.

As for the trending high....they used to trend gold price + ~$20-$40 (except for the sold out ones.....Dragon/Horse/Snake, which sold for a bit higher premium. When gold was >$700, the dragon 1oz was going for ~$950 I believe).

Seeing a $150+ premium for the "common" ones isn't what I am willing to pay.

  • Least expensive site I am aware of is APMEX.com

About a $35 premium for the commons.

For the 1 oz I CNI.com has great prices, but a $2000 minimum order.

I do like APMEX.com too. Their minimum order is something along $50, and they will take a credit card (for a premium they disguise as a shipping discount--but at least it's an option). They were behind by a week or so in adding the little piggy coin compared to CNI (the gold one looks just like what I imagined Wilbur would look like).

I have yet to find a place lately that meets/beats these two. But when it comes to wanting only a 1/10 size, the premium that Jim-Teri charge is relatively smaller and I've been happy with their customer service.

PS Are you going to bring back the gold Monkey icon?

    Thanks guys,

APMEX looks like the way to go.

Stork....I may bring it back again image
The pic is still here but the real thing resides in my safe deposit box. I am looking to get the wife's lunar sign next.

  • The Lunar 1oz Bullion coins were limited to a maximum mintage of 30,000 coins per year, compared to a million gold eagles every year this is very low.

They were sold for bullion at release but have steadily increased their premium over bullion ever since, this coming year will be the last of the current series with a "Babe" like pig on the gold coins.

The 2000 Year of the Dragon are very expensive if they turn up for sale at all, with the 2002 Year of the Horse not far behind.

Edited to add a pic of the 1/20th oz Gold Monkey

Suprisingly, the snake has developed a bit of a premium as well.
