Either Rogers wiped with his hand or

that's pine tar.

Can't you get ejected for that?

  • Wel he got out of the second inning after he cleaned the substance off, but he didn't look as sharp. We'll see.
  • Well I guess he wiped with his hand.

When I saw it I thought it was the red clay from around the mound.

Too bad the announcers had to make the news instead of just reporting it.

There's not a pitcher alive who played competitively from age 15 and up who hasnt used some form of substance to grip the ball. It is common practice, and nothing to make news about.

A batter can use pine tar, gloves, etc. to help grip the bat, and in turn a pitcher uses what he can to grip the ball better. There is a difference between aid in gripping the ball, and doctoring the ball. Rogers did nothing wrong and doesnt deserve any of the scrutiny he is receiving over this.

Let the man enjoy these few great moments in his career. He is more than deserving the way he was pitched this postseason.

  • LOL,

    I was thinking darker,

    Say, would you like
    a chocolate-covered pretzel?

    They're a little melty, but,
    damn, are they exquisite.

    If I remember correctly,
    you're a big pretzel fan.

    Dark chocolate?
    Yeah!

    Come on!
    No, please, no!

    They're awesome. Here you go.

    Thank you.

Any foreign substance used on the ball is an ejectable offense. If that was indeed pine tar on his hand, and he was using it to get better grip or 'bite' on the ball, he absolutely should have been ejected.

No one else thinks its peculiar that this guy, who's been abysmal in his prior postseason history, suddenly has 3 games with 0.00 ERA, all with this mysterious 'spot' on his hand?

"You put SNOT on the ball . . . ?"
  • Bri, for once I actually agree with you. For myself, I look at it this way, when LaRussa did not make the ump go check him, pine tar or not, then the case is closed. All I know, if I had a chance to get a distinct advantage in the World Series by having an opposing pitcher who has been dominant ejected, I would have done so. Friendship goes out the window in competition, especially in games of this magnitude! Also saw John Kruk say that to some degree, if pine tar will give him a better grip in cold weather, and can stop him from throwing a ball at my head, I am all for it.

And also people, let's quit talking about past tank jobs Kenny Rogers has had in the past postseasons. The distant past IS the distant past, why not look at the present and recent past, he was pretty damn good all season long, with the exception of a few bad games EVERY pitcher has in a season overall. I never did see the sputter job the second half of this season as all the ubiquitous quotes I read all the time saying it will happen. Perhaps as Leyland says, the summer heat of Texas can take an effect on a body, especially on someone of his age, Rogers is not a spring chicken the last I looked. Rogers lost the last game of the season, and he can hardly be blamed for that, he was a team player and went out and did his best to try and win the division. I say you win and lose as a team, but if anyone wants to blame someone for the last game of the season, Fernando Rodney deserves it then! In a way, Kenny Rogers was really 17-7, not bad for a washed up pitcher who suprisingly signed with the Tigers.
