Beckett Baseball Card Price Guide (annual) vs. Beckett Baseball Almanac

Okay, as it stands now I have the Beckett Annual Price Guide (#22) from 2000. Although it's fine for a checklist (since I don't really collect anything past mid 1990s at the moment), the prices are certainly out of date and I'm considering getting a new annual Beckett guide. The question is, how comprehensive is the regular annual Beckett Baseball Card Price Guide now? What does the Almanac have that the regular annual baseball card price guide does not (card wise, I know it includes other baseball related collectibles)?

I haven't picked up a Beckett annual in quite some time.

I buy the Standard Catalog of Baseball by Krause pubs.

I believe it's more comprehensive - or at least used to be.

I prefer the Almanac. The Annual price guide doesn't include listings for many odd-ball type sets, or sets that aren't widely collected or sought after (such as the glossy All-Stars cards that Topps included in rack packs in the 80s).

I love the little write-up they do for each set in the Almanac too. image

I agree with Mike. When I was getting back into the hobby in 2003, I pulled out boxes of misc. cards that I had no idea or remembered what they were or their relative value (i.e., none, some, a lot). The big SCD was invaluable to me.

Really, my 2000 Annual price guide DOES include the glossy all-star cards that you mentioned and little write-ups for each set! So if I want to continue to get those in the current edition, I guess I have no choice but the Almanac, huh?
