WTF? eBay removed my listing! Has this happened to any of you ?

For the first time in 6 years of eBaying, I had an auction removed. One thing though.....it had already sold! 2 days after the auction ended and before the guy paid me, eBay removed the auction and refunded my fees. The auction was for a Mickey Mantle autographed Beckett cover photo. Apparently, I can't relist it unless it is authenticated by PSA/DNA or GAI, their 2 accepted independent authenticators. Anyways, I have been collecting autographs for fifteen years and this is one of many Mickey Mantle autographs I have had.......and it is real! I even added in the auction a guarantee that the item will pass PSA/DNA authentication with a money back offer....with no time limit! If I were to get the item authenticated, it would cost me $75....at which point, it would probably sell for fifty or so dollars more.....meaning for the type of signed item it is (just a photo), I will lose money by having it authenticated before selling. SO, with all the AWFUL fakes on eBay, I get my auction removed!! -- I have over 500 positives and a 100% perfect rating!! Why? This is SOoooo frustrating!! I was only selling a few random things because I needed some extra money. The auction ended at $101? and I was happy with that........2 days after it ended they cancel it and it disappears from My eBay (the email explained only that I must have it authenticated because one of their authenticators didn't like it)......WTF? I am so mad. Has this ever happened to any of you? Sorry for rambling on, but I really want my $100 and can't even relist the Mantle item because if it doesn't have a psa or gai sticker on it then I could be NARU'd. After 6 years and no problems, why now?

Thanks,

- Joe

My trusty exemplar is getting lots of exercise lately.

If you post a scan of the auto here, I am sure some
folks will take a look at it. You might ask EBAY if they
will accept a "quick opinion" from PSA; that will not
    cost much.

    Here is a real one................

  • try listing it in another category.???
  • can you contact the buyer? maybe they still want to purchase it. go around ebay and save the fees.

I have several authenticated autographs that look just like this......and through all the years, it's pretty easy distinguishing most Mantle fakes from authentics. Any means that would prove this autograph fake cannot be done through a scan online.... I offered a lifetime money back guarantee. I am so mad that I now have to list something else to get my $100. I was just listing some extra stuff I wanted to get rid of. The only reason this isn't authenticated already is because in selling it it would not be cost effective. I am definitely frustrated with eBay ending my auction. 100% feeback, 6 years as a member.....and this. I am quite upset. Anyways, that's life. I was just curious if anyone else had this type of experience. That is, had an auction removed after it had already ended...... or had an auction removed for some ridiculous crap such as this...

    Thanks again,

The part I really don't get is cancelling a listing AFTER it has ended. That happened to me once when I was the buyer and after I had already paid. Of course, in their notice, eBay says something to the effect of 'don't make payment'. I guess I was supposed to ignore their first notice after I won the item which said, "Congratulations! Please pay now!"

By the way, the ballpoint signature is a copy of whatever was on the original Beckett cover. This is a copy of signed Beckett cover signed again in sharpie. All of this was clear in the auction. Only the blue sharpie is actual ink.

I agree. As I understand a protective service such as this, how is it beneficial if they cancel auctions after they have already ended? This guy had two days to pay me before they cancelled it. I kinda wish he would have paid me though, I would have had my money and he would have had his autograph....which I would still guarantee for life. Anyways, it's good to hear that I'm not they first this has happened to.

  • Like someone said earlier, go around ebay and avoid the fee's. Ebay really sucks right now and anytime I think someone might be interested in something else similar to what I sell them, I just email them and talk about it that way and sell it that way to avoid fee's. I'm convinced that Ebay will never be the same.
  • throw it up on the buy/sell/trade forum. can't hurt and won't cost you anything. i'd ask more than $100 bucks though

It's on a non-glossy photo that is thick paper stock and is slighly smaller than 8x10. I have had an easier time selling glossy photos and an easier time selling index cards than this particular item. I think most people don't like the fact that the two signatures are right next to each other. I was honestly happy to get the $100 for it. I think it sold for like $110, though I can't go back and check because the whole listing is removed. Anyways, based on the particular item, I was happy with that price. I may try the buy/sell//trade forum, that worked well for me before on a few things. Thanks.

The signature looks good to my non-expert eye.

I wonder who EBAY is using for their "expert."

Almost all cancelled listings are the result of a
complaint being lodged by a user.

Yeah, I am wondering who their expert is....and I can't imagine someone complaining about me or my auction, as I really haven't made any eBay enemies.

Joe-- I do not think ebay has their own authenticators. It is possible that someone submitted it to PSA/DNA Quick Opinion & it came back as questionable. I had a Joe Montana card in my store a couple weeks ago that I was selling for a friend. Someone emailed me about it and let me know they were submitting it for a quick opinion... right after they received the results (which came back as questionable), I ended the listing b/c I did not want to deal with the hassle with ebay or any other potential buyers. The next day I received an email from ebay stating that the auction has been cancelled for the same reason you stated. Seems to me, the quick opinion results were the cause of them deleting the auction
