Mets - Who will be gone?

Personally, I want there to be few, if any, changes. The team chemistry is great and I hope it stays that way. But, what do you think? Will anyone be gone by next season and why?

  • If they're smart they won't make many changes at all. They were an inning away from the World Series and they did it on a decimated starting pitching staff. They should be the NL favorites next year.
  • Floyd
    Glavine
    Valentin
    Milledge
    Trachsel

All guys who may be gone IMO

If they get some pitching, they will be very, very dangerous. My personal opinion is that Pedro Martinez has seen better days. I am not sure he can come back and be even close to the pitcher he once was. I think Mike Pelphrey will be a good pitcher in the next year or two.

Floyd, Trachsel are gone for sure.

I think they'll pick up Glavine's option, especially in light of how he held the staff together down the stretch. Milledge is young and raw and some say he has a poor attitude but he's very talented so I hope they don't give up on him just yet, especially since he's cheap.

Mota may not be back because of salary either. Same thing with Valentin.

Of course, if they sign Soriano to play 2nd base, who needs Jose?

Torre gets nearly fired for blowing a series his team should have won, willie has first and second with nobody out in the ninth and he doesn't have the next guy bunt? Where's his walking papers?

For all the 'genius' calls I heard about willie, how come there weren't any calls for his head on that play?

Fire his ass and bring in Girardi.

You are such an idiot...Both runners were in scoring position when Beltran came up to the plate, so that point is moot.

Beltran was taking all the way after the walk and that's what cost him; that first pitch was right in his wheelhouse and he never took the bat off his shoulder. Willie did a great job all season and throughout the postseason. Stop being such a racist and give the guy some credit where credit is due!

  • The whole game the Mets took the first pitch in hopes of going deep into the count. There was one camera that caught Willie making the clicker sign with his finger to make sure they're doing the pitch count for Suppan. Too bad they didn't go deep enough.

Floyd will go. He's done. He can't stay healthy and is the weakest link. It'll effect the players temporarily who bonded well with him like Wright.

Oliver Perez is now trade bait-able after what he's done in the postseason. He'll end up somewhere as a 3rd or 4th starting pitcher.

I hope Glavine won't go. It would be nice to see him reach 300 wins in a Mets uniform but I can understand his leaning towards family. But will Atlanta want him back??

I say send Perez and Floyd to the Pirates and get Nady back!

I can't see Milledge going. He's too raw and can have a great year. Look at the improvement from last season to this season for Reyes. Milledge can pull a Reyes and blossom next year.

Wished Wright hadn't choked during the Cards series.

Racist? Again, proof, you mindless troll? I called for torre ('mr. overrated') to be fired...so asking another manager of a team which *should* have advanced to be fired is hardly racist.

Have you always been this mind-numbingly retarded, or is it this recent brain damage you've incurred?

I heard on 660 that this option is a Mutual option. even if the Mets want him back, Glavine has to agree to the option being converted. Supposedly NY isn't his first choice anymore. I think he'd give a hometown deal to Atlanta and return "home". Just my uneducated opinion.

Mets will dump tons of cash into 2 starters Im sure, and a new left fielder. They'll be dangerous.

I wonder if the mets will become the NL version of the yankees - fall short of the ultimate goal, then abandon the game plan that got them there in the first place.

Love to see the Yankees and Mets get into a bidding war for Zito and neither make the series in 2007. It truly would be fitting.

I'd like to see Zito and Schmidt both shun both ny teams and play in a place they won't be crucified for having a few bad starts. Hell, if Arod can get booed there, anyone can.

    Arod sucks.

Floyd is all but gone, from what I've read - and Trachsel as well. I hate to see it, but the Red Sox knew the deal with Pedro Martinez all too well, and look at what has happened to him. His great career seems all but over now.

The Mets just need a SP or two, and they'll be fine. Unfortunately, just about every team that fell short this year will be looking for a SP or two - and the Yankees will be around to drive the price up on just about all of them.

Schmidt is an older pitcher, who isn't being pursued anywhere like the level Zito is. Comparing Schmidt to Zito is laughable. Hell, if anyone collapses like Arod, they should get booed no matter where they play(Like Arod did; booed even at the All Star game, and in nearly every Stadium in the league). I'd like to see Zito come to the Big Apple and take Mussinas spot in the rotation though.

Who was comparing them? I simply mentioned the top 2 free agent pitchers, in no way shape or form did I 'compare' them. Learn to read.

<< <i>Hell, if anyone collapses like Arod, they should get booed no matter where they play >>

He 'collapsed'? I didn't realize hitting .290, 35 HRs, and 120+ rbi was a collapse; I didn't realize winning an MVP was a 'collapse'. Talk about 'laughable', it's your assertion that Arod 'collapsed'.

I'd like Zito to give ny the big FU and play somewhere he'll be embraced instead of shunned.
  • Zito has heart. Plus, he's tougher mentally than Arod. It's not NY's fault that Arod is a headcase who can't handle the pressure situations playing on a contending team. Oh wait, we all hate him because he's biracial, good looking, and rich right? lol.

I'd like to see Zito come to the Astros though, it seems he and Oswalt would be a great combo.

Do you ever actually read what you post before you hit the 'reply' button? Zito has 'heart'? Arod's a 'head case'? Jesus christ you're an idiot.

Oh you're an astros fan....stownie's buddy huh?
  • Zito will probably pull a Maddux and use the NY offers as comparison for another team to pony up and sign him. He doesn't have the NY mentality to want to play in NY (ala Maddux).

As for the Mets, Zito's destination will affect what they do with Milledge. If they convince Zito to be Flushing bound, Milledge will be a Met next year. If not, he will bring in a #2 or #3 starter. Tracshel is probably gone, as is Floyd. I also wonder about Billy Wagner--I don't know how much confidence management has in his ability when the game is on the line.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Glavine will return to Atlanta to win # 300 there. The Braves franchise and fans are still reeling over Maddux winning # 300 in a Cubs uni.
