OT: Another eBay Jacka$$

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Sounds like a pervert to me...
He has had about 3000 folks stop by who might
have taken a look at his other dolls.
I have it on excellent authority that scambay is NOT
requiring ELMO sellers to prove that they actually have
the items to sell. That is going to make for some sad
XMAS mornings.

He saved 35-cents by not using a gallery photo.
FVF would be over 100K.
He got a lot of bang for his advertising bucks.
(That many page views would have cost him about
$1,000.00, if he was using YAHOO ppc through
overture.com.)

When does ebay ever require sellers to prove that they have any item that they are selling?

T&S has been casting a large, but silent net for a
very long time now. Serious sellers caught in that net
seldom speak of it publicly because they do not want
to have their use of the venue ended.
In general, there are three ways that the net gets thrown.
1. A competitor files a false report with T&S.
2. A buyer or seller files a report in good faith.
3. VERY limited random checks are made by T&S.
The "ownership verification" process is used by the venue
to make itself appear proactive; in fact, the process
seldom catches crooks and runs many honest sellers
out of business. Anyone who cannot comply with the
terms of the process, is assumed to have violated
TOS and is counted as "caught" when the venue
is blowing its horn about how diligent it is in protecting
consumers. FEW unsophisticated sellers can comply
with the process, and even the sharpest sellers can
have a very difficult time with it.
As far as I have been able to determine, every seller
who complies with the demands is off the hook. But,
the weeks that the process can take often causes
sellers to lose thousands of dollars in sales; all accounts
are silently restricted while the "investigation" moves
forward. Listing privileges are always suspended during
the process, and if the venue determines that a seller
is delaying the process, ALL existing listings can be cancelled,
and stores "vacationed."
Aside from lost business, sellers often must retain professional
help in responding to the VERY complex requests for info. In
fairness, it must be assumed that at least some dishonest
sellers are Xed out by the process, but many more innocent
sellers are harmed by it.
Sellers of very expensive items are the primary targets of the
"program," but demand items - like ELMO and PS3 - are sometimes
zeroed in on, too. This year, at least for now, it appears that
ELMO has a free pass.
