An ebay seller to avoid

We've been up and down the feedback-held-hostage situation, and as I told this seller, I don't believe in leaving negative feedback. I'd rather post it on a public message board. I think the emails tell it all.
My message to seller:
I rec'd the item yesterday, thanks. I wanted to let you know I rec'd the cards in this manner because I do not have positive feedback to post for you and I don't believe in leaving negative feedback. As you know, the cards were simply folded into a piece of paper and posted via USPS ground. I truly expected better handling for $10, which is what you charged me to put these cards in a one dollar cushion mailer with $1.11 postage. I would suspect other buyers would leave negative feedback, or at the least neutral, without giving you the courtesy of sharing their disappointment with you. $10 for the shipping & handling you gave me on this lot is just wrong, and I wanted to let you know of my dissatisfaction.
Best regards,
Mark
His response:
sorry you were not happy about teh S&H but i generally put a 10 dollar amount to cover any potential cost including shipping abroad, and insurance. i will leave feedback once recieved, thanks and enjoy the cards
So I sent back this:
Good one, Steve. Please put me on your blocked bidder list so I don't accidentally ever bid on one of your auctions again.
This master salesman's name is Steven Schwartz; ebay ID is prymtyme3333. I guess I should have expected nothing more from a guy with 96.7% positive FB.

Was he from IL because I know there is a Schwartz Sports here and I wonder if its the same guy.

I'd be sending him subscriptions to
Inches and Stallion Magazines. What a jerk!
Here's a perfect example as to why this seller holds
feedback hostage. His service is crap and he knows that.
EBAY's policy is that at no time is the "final price"
of an item to be used to determine the non-insurance
portion of shipping costs. EBAY disregards the item
price in their decisions about what constitutes
"exorbitant shipping charges."
A cheap item might well cost more than an expensive
item to pack and ship. EBAY has no problem with sellers
charging extra for appropriate packaging and encourages
sellers to explain their "special packaging methods" in
their listings.
All that said: There is no excuse for either a seller over-charging
for shipping, or using sub-standard packaging methods. Almost
all of the necessary safe-packing materials needed to deliver
trading cards are available FOR FREE in the form of heavy cardboard.
Bubble mailers (6 x 9) cost me 50-cents, and the clean cardboard I
use is FREE.
When an experienced EBAYer is treated poorly on shipping issues,
I tend not to worry about "global impact" because such buyers are not
likely to abandon EBAY. But, when newbies are shafted this way, I
know/fear that it is likely to only happen once; and, we will never see
them again. That is a bad thing and hurts every responsible seller.
Other than taking the profit motive out of the shipping equation, I
dunno what will solve the problem.

No excuse to what he did to you. Did the cards arrive undamaged even with the crappy packaging?

DG - the cards were a lot of nice N41s. There is slight corner wear, to be expected in 125 year old cards, and there's really no way of knowing how much of that wear came from the crappy packaging. I couldn't imagine treating cards this old in such a manner.

Just wanted to say...
Hi Mark!

Me too. Get a separate account just for buying and eng the hell out of a-sholes like this one.

Glad you asked. The key to the sentence was "believe". I "believe" feedback is crap, but I would certainly "leave" one if necessary. However, only if feedback has been left for me already, because sure as the sun'll come up, there will be retaliatory feedback if not.
For that reason, I think this thread has probably done more damage to "out" a bad seller than any neg I might leave in his feedback profile.
I've toyed with the idea of getting another user id, but I haven't done it as yet.
Edit to add: Hi Mike!!! Howyadune?

Those are some nice cards. I am not familiar with those but I showed them to my wife and she asked "why don't you collect those" I suggested that maybe she could start a collection. I can tell that she is considering it and she is going to do some research on scarcity, price etc.
I hope she does get into it. It would be nice to share some similar interest with her as far as a hobby.
