Chinese Monetary History

Hello
I am doing a research project for my history class that involves comparing one aspect of two cities/countries. I am comparing the development of money in China and the United States, specifically Philadelphia, because I think that would be a whole lot of fun! Not to mention the interrelations with regards to US Trade Dollars and Spanish Dollars (8R).
I have quite a lot of books from which to draw from for US coins and the historical development of money, but not so much for China.
I want to discuss the spade and knife money, the large-size notes made under the Ming, the Xing bronze coins (I have a few) and then after that I really have no clue.
If you guys could reccommend any books (preferred) or websites(my teacher wishes us to stay away from electronic sources, if possible)(I am not allowed to use Wikipedia
) I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you very much!

<< <i>The only Chinese coin reference book I have is in Chinese, so I don't think it will be much help.
yeah, but imagine if you directly quote the book in the natural language ? that would be COOL
I'll have to ask about ordering it.
Thanks!

Illustrated Catalog of Chinese Coins by Eduard Kann
Originally published in 1953 and there is a 1966 edition.
A local library might be able to get it for you via "inter-library loan" or "Link+".
I believe that Eduard Kann was an official at the Shanghai Mint in the 1940's.
