White Corrosion Spots on Copper Lincolns
I've never really felt I've answered this question for myself so I was hoping that other folks could share their experiences with me.
As any of you who've searched BU Lincolns rolls know, some rolls have coins that have the beginning of verdigris in the form of a white spot, sometimes with the beginning of a bullseye. Many times I'll see a coin that is great except for a white spot that hasn't eaten in to the metal or formed a bullseye yet, and have gently swabbed it off with a Q-Tip.
What I see after a scenario like this is the white spot is gone, the metal is smooth and to the naked eye the coin looks fine. The bad part is that under magnification the removed white spot leaves an un-toned spot that looks unlike the rest of the color of the coin.
My question is, has anybody here certified coins like this through PCGS or do they automatically get rejected for unnatural color?
thanks,
WF
