1888 N162 Goodwins Question...

Griffins had posted these two badboys on another thread (Turkey thread) and I started to try and look up some information on the pop reports for them.

But, I can't find anything listed for that year (1888) or those cards by player. Are there no PSA graded copies of any of these around? If so, am I looking it up incorrectly?

They're in the Miscellaneous section instead of Baseball.

Here is mine that I had graded. By the way, I know it is mislabeled.

Not often enough! It's a hugely popular set, and even in 1's and 2's they have been going thru the roof. Vintagecardprices.com shows about 5-9 sales for each card in the last year, with more being offered in SGC holders than PSA (pretty typical for 19th Century).
    Edited to add:
Old Cardboard is always a good source of info for pre war cards.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

Is SMR totally off based on what they are going for right now?

  • there just as off based with all the N cards, (pre-1900), the N172 I have on ebay goes for a premium over what it did according to SMR

With these things (as most all tobacco cards, I assume), paper loss causes an automatic PSA 1, right?

So, would a PSA 1 with no paper loss go for a premium?

At the PSA 1/2 level, it is really an eye appeal thing. A PSA 1 that has great front eye-appeal but paper loss on the back will sell for a premium. A PSA 1 with no paper loss but that looks like it has been through the washing machine and folder 13 times will sell for a discount.

It's all the eye appeal, baby.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

But, paper loss will almost always drop it to a PSA 1...is that correct?

If the loss is noticed. I believe there was a PSA 4 with paper loss posted on Net 54.

Aside from eBay, is there anywhere else that anyone would suggest for picking these up?

Seems as if these are very tough to find .... at least the baseball ones. Might be one of those 'too tough to collect' sets. But, I think that they are very beautiful nonetheless.
