How do I crack? How do I get rid of wax stain?

I know these are two basic questions but I have a card with an ST qualifier that is so minimal it's a joke. I believe that's all that keeps it from being a 10. I have never cracked and resubmitted before so please help guide me. How do I crack? How do I remove a little wax stain on back of card? THANK YOU!!

A wax stain on the BACK of a card is usually not completely removable.

Yeah, if it's on the back, I'd leave it alone. There's no way to completely remove it without some sort of chemical treatment and that makes it no different than a card (or any other paper/canvas collectable) that has been restored. The value would be even lower.

If it's on the front however, you can probably just wipe it off with some soft tissue paper. I consider this no different than wiping your fingerprints off those shiney chrome cards you see all over the place these days.

I have completely removed wax stain from the back of a card before without any problems and PSA couldn't detect it. What is the grade of the card now? If it is 8ST, then the card should grade 8 without the stain. If it is 9ST, then there could be a chance for a 10.

Sadly it is an 8ST so I think your comments answer my question... not worth it if not likely to be a 10... and if difficult to do. Just for future reference, how the heck do I crack one of these slabs?
  • Several methods. I use a pliers to crack/snap one top corner. Once corner is off slab, and flip is exposed, slide a knife/screwdriver between top and bottom plastic. CAREFULLY and SLOWLY "pop" slab. Be careful not to damage card, of course. I slide my finger between top and bottom plastic pieces.

    SAfety goggles are optional.

    Hope this helps.

Dremel to cut corners. Then pry two slabs apart carefully.
