NY Baseball <----------- OVERRATED

HyperionHyperion Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭

Looks like both squads can do what the braves have been doing for years:
The braves spend a decade beating up on the dregs of the league in the regular season, just to get shown the door in the playoffs.

Buy the regular season with a large payroll, choke in the playoffs.

I have no idea what they mets are going to do with thier pitching staff in shambles next year and beyond.

Obviously you are giving the Mets a zero shot in coming back from a 2-1 deficit? Because, well, if they do it renders this thread bunk.

  • This thread is pure bunk anyway. The Mets did not choke - their pitching staff got hurt. I'm just hoping for a miracle now. And maybe Heilman will need to start game.

  • The Mets have a lot of baseball yet to be played. I wouldn't count them out. Frankly, I think they're going to rally back even with a 3-13 pitcher on the mound today image

The Mets were a pitch or two away from winning game 2. It wasn't their starting pitching staff (or lack of starting pitching, due to injuries) that blew game 2, anyway.

The way Glavine looked in game one, the Mets with Tom Glavine, can most likely win again. Plus if the Mets can score early, maybe they will hold on to some leads next time? image

I will be the first person to congrats the Mets if they win the series, but they look like they're in shambles.

Choker of a closer, and ZERO starting pitching. what's a 49 year old tom glavine like on 3 days rest in sub-45 degree weather ?
Id sooner buy a lottery ticket (ok, a pick 3, not a pick 4,5 or 6) than hope they can come back with thier starters.

the mets offense is just as pathetic as they've been in the latter part of the season.

Heh, I gotta love the posters parroting that idiot Mike Lupica in calling the Yankees of all teams, the Atlanta Braves.

Maybe you don't see the difference between one championship in a 16 year run and FOUR championships in an 11 year stretch, but I assure you, everyone else does. Even the most hardcore of Yankee haters.

I don't think the Mets are done, by any means. The Cardinals are just not a good post-season team, and the Mets will bounce back against them. It would be a done deal already, if the Mets had a healthy Pedro and El Duque out there, but that's why you play the games...

Indeed, anything can happen in a post-season series. I mean, did anyone think the Tigers would win seven straight games in the postseason to go to the Series after they blew their division lead?

Hyperion, what was that you said about the Mets offense??

11-3 and counting. Home field advantage is ours again!

And the real MVP of the mets shows again tonight why that is. Forget beltran, he's a bum compared to Delgado.

I stand humbily corrected, the METS offense looked every bit as potent as they did in the heart of the regular season,
    That being said:
they had to do it against a POS group of pitchers. a rookie with an ugly hat who threw junk ?

    3-8 Rookie pitcher ?

Im extremely interested to see how Glavine reacts to the cold temps and the short turnaround.
  • What I tell ya? Even with a 3-13 pitcher, they rally back no problem.

Now somebody tell me why they're going to waste their aging ace tonight on short rest. Why not let him pitch game 6 at Shea? Is there no one else to start today.
  • And the real MVP of the mets shows again tonight why that is. Forget beltran, he's a bum compared to Delgado.

Wow, bums kind of a strong word for someone who's hitting .333 with 3 homeruns, 6 rbi's and 6 runs scored in 4 L.C.S games and who will likely finish in the top 5 in MVP voting for the year

Actually, I don't think there is. But, the forecast is for rain tonight, so maybe Glavine gets a break - and pitches on normal rest tommorrow.

Some stats to think about! image

    Mets Regular Season Record: 97-65
St. Louis Regular Season Record: 83-78 (just 5 games over .500 baseball for the regular season!)

St. Louis "On the Road" Record: 34-47

In my opinion, St Louis must win tonight's game (game 5) at home. It will be tough to win again in NY (on the road).

My feeling is the Mets will take game 6 and 7 at home, even if St. Louis wins game 5.

If St. Louis does lose tonite (gm 5),

literally, if the metsies catch fire, they can take a well rested (cold) tigers game in the first 2 game, the series could be a joke.
that being said, tonight is now a must-game for St. Louis !!

They've been saying that for months...they had their 'cool off' period at the end of the regular season, then they went and whooped up on the pathetic yankees.

And the above poster is right - it doesnt matter who the NL sends, they're just cannon fodder for the tigers

they had their 'cool off' period at the end of the regular season,

    another misinformed statement.

actually, the Tigers were something like 19 and 31 over the last 50 games.

Really, they didn't lose three in a row to KC to close out the season?

i think they did, and that would of course be the cooling off period I was talking about. 50 games? That's a third of the season!
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
yes dopey i know, however, three games is hardly a large enough sample size. To say they had a cooling off period at games 160, 61 and 62 when in fact they cooled off well before then IMO makes your statement a misinformed one.

    Mets vs Cards

With an extra day of rest for both teams (...especially for those 2 starters, Glavine and Weaver!), this game should be very interesting.

Glavine seems to be in top form, and this extra day of rest is huge for him!

Weaver pitched well in game 1, but not quite as good as Glavine.

The Met "run explosion" in game four was impressive. But game three was impressive for the Cards too!

    This should be fun!
