Another awful EBAY seller...

I bought a $10 card from markp333 and paid an additional $5 for shipping of the psa graded card. I have never been a harda-s about overpriced shipping, EXCEPT IF I GET THE ITEM AND THE PACKING IS AWFUL!!!

The PSA graded card was in between 2 pieced of cardboard THAT WERE MUCH SMALLER THAN THE CARD. He then taped it together with packing tape and the thick adhesive of the packing tape is stuck onto both sides of the holder. After about 1/2 hour of labor I almost have the sticky residue off....

Please markp333, whoever you are, for $5 please make the cardboard at least big enough to cover the entire card. The actual shipping was under $1 !!!

As small sellers make fewer sales, we can expect the
shipping attrocities to get even worse.

When worded nicely, it is not insulting to a seller for
you to add a note in your payment ticket, something
    like:

"Please try to pack this item very securely, because
my post office sometimes handles parcels roughly.
    Thank you very much."

The real problem will never be solved until the venue
gets rid of the sellers who insist that S&H has to be
a profit center for their biz.

  • I agree with storm. In fact, I'm going to start typing that little message to every seller I buy from on the intial transaction. Perfectly worded, it doesn't assign blame or a lack of confidence to the seller.

I on the storm team too - I have, for many years, put a note similar to this on my payment comments:

"Please package carefully with special attention to (whatever) so I receive the item in the condition it was offered. Please don't take offense; you'd be surprised how some of my cards have been packaged in the past."

Never had a problem - nobody wants to be like those fools from the past....image

  • Just a little care in packaging would be nice.

If I get a card with any tape glue on the toploader, I just throw the toploader away and put on a new one. I know it's a waste, but tape glue pisses me off, it pisses me off even more than wasting.

Goo Gone is a heckuva lot easier than scrubbing. You can get it at most grocery stores in the cleaning supplies aisle. 30 seconds to clean up after a sloppy seller - tops!

Easiest way to get rid of sticky residue is to spray some WD-40 on a paper towel and rub on the effected area. I use this method on all my cards to clean them up and revitalize the slab. You'll be amazed at how quickly the goo disappears.
  • I guess everyone is different on what is good packaging. I have a regular buyer who will neg you if you ship the item in a bubble mailer. He explained to me that he has had many cards damaged when mailed in Bubble mailers, but not in other envelopes.

If a buyer has any concerns about shipping or packaging they need to clear them up BEFORE they bid. I know I ignore remarks about shipping securely or whatever and have blocked some buyers from bidding for doing this. I have shipped over 10,000 cards by mail and only had one damaged(package had a tire mark on it). I think I know what I am doing. I see buyers who put those kinds of remarks as PITAs in the makings and not worth my time. I package all my cards in bubble mailers with cardboard support.

Instead of complaining about it REPORT them and Ebay will remove them. One Ebay rep told me it takes 3 reports to get an item pulled for excessive S/H, but they will pull them if reported. I see people complaining about it over and over, but they never report.

What is going to happen is Ebay will eventually start charging a fee on the entire price of th item. Really this is the only way Ebay will solve the problem.

The easiest was for a buyer to avoid this is NOT TO BID.. How hard is that??
  • sportscardfanatic - you are missing the point here..
I was well aware of the shipping amount and had no problem with it until the item showed up looking like cr-p! Almost every seller charges more than the actual and I always factor that into my bid amount. I had no problem paying the $5 until I saw what I got!
