Surprising cards with zero PSA 10's

What are some cards that surprise you that there are zero PSA 10's? One that surprised me was mentioned in the current SMR. There is no 1986 Topps Nolan Ryan graded a PSA 10. I know that the black borders are tough, but there is tons of that product out there. You would think that there some PSA 10's.

What are some more that surprise you?

Funny, but the 1986 Topps Tiffany version of Nolan Ryan has 14 graded PSA 10s. Also zero PSA 10s for the 1986 OPC Nolan Ryan version!

Maybe one of eight participants will produce a monster 1986 Topps Nolan Ryan card, as we 8 will be 'busting' a case of 12,000 1986 Topps cards shortly!

  • Funny, but the 1986 Topps Tiffany version of Nolan Ryan has 14 graded PSA 10s

The Tiffany cards were made differently and packaged differently. The quality control was better on them making 10s easier to find than the regular card.

A little "off-topic" (don't want to hijack this thread, as it has a good theme, but do want to do this follow-up!)...

Yep! In addition, a complete 1986 Topps Baseball Tiffany set came boxed & sealed. I think Topps produced 5,000 sets (exactly how many were actually sold, I do not know). I got the feeling that, as with many sets, "card #1 turns out to be "condition sensitive" (i.e. "dinged corners, etc.). As card #1 Pete Rose has only one PSA 10 (out of I think, 40 graded), but I'm not 100% sure if that is really the case with this set.

As far as I can see, the front of a regular Topps & a Topps Tiffany are identical!

But a brighter variation for the Topps Tiffany reverse (on the right, below).

I think the front of a Tiffany card is glossy.

yes that is correct. the tiffany cards have glossy stock. also as noted the backs are different due to the different card stocks used.

FWIW maybe the rose special are a bit 'easier" in 10 since there are no black broders ???

How about Nolan Ryan and Jerry Koosman's 1968 RC...No 10s!

With all the competition out there, you'd think a 1/1 PSA 10 Nolan Ryan would sell for like $5 batrillion. Now if you excuse me, I have to go pick up a pallate of 1986 Topps rack cases.
