Sure you'll loose weight but will you keep it of? You need to eat less and exercise. Only way to do it right. I lost 60 pounds over a year and a half period and so far kept if off for 8 months now.
<< <i>Russian Man Goes 50 Days Without Food By Associated Press

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia - A Russian man on Monday claimed to have set a new world record _ for fasting. A bearded and hollow-cheeked Agasi Vartanyan finished what he said was his 50th day without food, climbing out of plastic cube on the banks of the Neva River outside of St. Petersburg _ and promptly berating reporters.
"I feel offended because my efforts did not attract much attention," the 46-year-old said. "Only local media wrote about it."
He then hopped into a waiting car and drove away by himself.
Doctors who examined Vartanyan said he lost 51 pounds during the ordeal, dropping to 158 pounds.
A spokeswoman, Lybov Kobzar, told reporters that Vartanyan drank about 0.8 gallons of water a day. To pass the time, he watched TV, listened to the radio, and talked on his cell phone. As the weather in the northern Russian city turned colder, he got an electric heater.
Beginning his attempt on Aug. 27, Vartanyan said he was inspired by a similar effort by stuntman and illusionist David Blaine, who fasted for 44 days in 2003 while suspended acrylic box over the Thames River in London.
Vartanyan said he planned on submitting documentation of his efforts to the Guinness Book of World Records. >>
Obviously Mr. Vartanyan did not avail himself of this forum as a means to publicizing his experience.
Also, I note that Brandon has not mentioned the use of the 'plastic cube', which would seem to me to be an integral part of a long-term fast.
<< <i>Oftentimes a weight problem is tied to dopamine and the high achieved from eating. Your diet will probably be more effective if you look for a dopamine substitute. If possible, running works well. It takes a lot of discipline. Good luck. >>

I take it you don't smoke grass, so that won't be a concern.
"Recent studies have shown" that many people having gone for gastric-bypass surgery become alcoholics -- attributed to the dopamine. They have to have their high. I think there is something to this. This is probably why coin collectors not getting enough sex focus more on coins, and collectors wishing to spend less time on coins turn to sex.
I feel fine but I'm been really busy this week. I've got a biiiggg project and I'm trying to find people to delegate it out to cuz it's just that huge. The hunger pangs are over but still get the occasional headache. My current weight is 293.5 (as of this morning) so 17 1/2 pounds lost so far in about 5 days.
Oh yeah, I'm still very cranky and literally went Sperber on the WarrantyPro house warranty people who I waited for 2 days and had to call them and they told me that even though I had a scheduled 11 month walkthrough that I had to call another company cuz they aren't affiliated with Crestmark homes anymore.
Well, it's day 10 and I'm feeling pretty good right now. Pounds lost: 31.5. Pounds per day average: 3.15 lbs
Had a crappy weekend though:
#1. The neighbor's dogs killed our family pet, Pearl. I really felt bad when I had to tell our 6yr old and 3yr old that kitty isn't coming back. Our three yr old didn't really understand the concept of death so he kept looking out the window waiting for her. Damn that was sad.
#2. I found out the scale I was using was off by nearly 15lbs!!!! I used a bag of lawn fertilizer to check it and sure enough, 12 or so pounds off. So, when I thought I was at 284, I was actually at 299!! Geez. So when I started I was actually 326. I'm currently at 294.5 on the right scale so my total loss so far is 31.5 lbs. Kinda a spirit buster when you are geared up for the next goal of 180 when you realize you are "technically" at 294.5. The new scale we got actually has a hydration level reading that tells you how hydrated you are and I'm staying in the "normal" zone of 40%-45%. Apparently that is normal according to the scale.
I'm not as cranky as I was the first 5 days and my mood is slightly elevated. Every now and then I get a feeling of euphoria (yes, it does happen when you fast.) However, my temper is very short and my reactions are usually too quick for me to prevent them. I was hanging a mirror above the mantle yesterday and I made the drill holes about a centimeter too short from one another so I threw the lazer level onto the kitchen floor in the next room. In about 5 or so minutes, I cooled off and fixed the problem. It is really out of my character to overreact like that but I'll just have to count to 10 or something in the future. Also, I'm noticing a film-like feel in my mouth sorta like when you are talking for too long and your mouth dries out. Also, I'm having to wear more deodorant.
Also, when we were in IKEA yesterday, I was kneeling down to pick up something Parker dropped and I stood up pretty quick and my head got very light. I had to kneel back down again for about 20 seconds. That was really weird but it wore off in a few seconds and I stood up very slowly.
That stinks about your cat!! Having to tell your kids is a tough thing!
Too bad about your scale being off too - that is a spirit buster for sure, but it sounds like you're doing well. I do hope you remain healthy. I'll remember that deodorant thing too when I say hello in Baltimore....I may just wave from a distance if that's ok
Update. It's day 19 and I've lost right about 40 lbs. Current weight of 286. The weight loss has slowed down somewhat but it's probably because I'm sitting at a desk all day and I've avoided strenuous activities because I get dizzy.
My wife got on me the other day about the front lawn so I decided to mow it. It's not a huge patch of grass but it took me about 45 minutes to mow because I stopped frequently and drank alot of water. I was pretty useless after that.
I guess I'm used to the fast now and have completely lost hunger pangs. I actually don't even really think about food and I'm feeling very clear minded and sometimes find it hard to fall asleep at night. I am able to cut back on the deodorant (compared to a week or so ago) and the pants I was fitting into very uncomfortably 5 weeks ago are really loose now and I need to wear them with a belt.
The only thing I'm worried about now is flying with absolutely nothing in my digestive tract. I usually eat before flying to calm my stomach and nerves but we are leaving for Baltimore on the 8th and flying home on the 11th. My 30 days ends on the 13th.
I feel confident that I will be able to continue this fast until my body weight reaches around 200lbs which is currently my goal. When I reach that weight I will begin a weight training program and try to start running again if I can find a nice lightly traveled road around my house. I wonder how long I'll have to continue to get to 200? At the current rate of weight loss, I figure it'll take me about 50 or so more days which would be quite a feat.
I thought the 30 day routine was over-the-top, but, though I am not a physician, to fast continuously until you are down to 200 sounds like pushing your luck -
<< <i>You need to see your doctor and have yourself checked out before continuing on. >>
Like I've never heard that one before. >>
Ah, the arrogance of youth in knowing everything. Have you ever thought that a doctor might actually help you accomplish your goal? >>
Ah Yes, the arrogance of youth.
Never said I knew everything. I do know enough about my body to know when I'm approaching a dangerous breaking point though. Have you ever thought that people can go on living even if they don't go crying to a doctor everytime they got a runny nose? Yes, I'm well aware that a doctor could help me accomplish my goal. When I was 14 I was seriously overweight as well and I did go to a stinkin' doctor. SOS put me on a magical new drug called Phen-Phen and charged me plenty of money to do so. Yes, I'm sure a doctor can help with prescribing me a shiny little pill and telling me what I already know like "don't eat so much" or "drink water and get plenty of exercise" while charging me an arm and a leg to do so. Oh, and thanks to NOT LISTENING to the doctor's advice and quitting the drugs he prescribed 4 months prematurely, I voided having my Heart completely ruined. I've had an EKG and I'm perfectly fine. Ah Yes, the arrogance of youth.
Life is what you make it Brandon, and loving what you do is Living it up ! You just make sure you keep enjoying it and keep running them doctors off. An apple a day keeps the coin doctor away
That's it. I had planned to break my fast at Baltimore but found it came up to only 27 days instead of the full thirty. So Adrian, I, and two friends went to a great place "Luna del sol"? and I ate Salmon Oscar with broccolli and lump crab meat. Damn was it good but what is funny is that I wasn't really hungry and almost had to force myself to eat past the first few bites. The next day, Mike Printz took Adrian and I to G&M Crab Cakes which was exceptional. If you want the best, check www.gandmcrabcakes.com and order some online. I've already ordered some for my wife, who loves crab. They also served a local favorite of french fries covered in brown gravy (new to me but it was tasty). It is about 20 minutes outside of Baltimore so taking a cab out there wasn't that big of a problem but we didn't think to call ahead for the cab when we were done eating. We ended up standing on the corner looking up cab #'s on our phones and ended up getting picked up by a local cab company with a really interesting cabbie who gave me a small container of Old Bay Seasoning and claimed to know exactly where Blackbeard's grave is located. All in all, a fun and interesting way to finish up 27 days of water and liquid vitamins.
Weight when I started: 326 Weight after 27 days of fasting: 278.5 Total weight loss: 47.5 Pounds lost per day: 1.76 lbs / day average.
I feel fine and after I ate, my stomach gurgled a little bit and was a bit sore but nothing more than that.
My target weight is 200 lbs so at 1.76 lbs / day it should take me another 44 days to get down to there. I will be fasting from now until Thanksgiving and after thanksgiving until Christmas. By then if I haven't reached my target weight, I'll be damn close.

People who have never had to experience being overweight always try to say belittling junk like this. It makes me laugh. If you are overweight and are reading this, it is not valuable information. It is hard losing weight and I'm sure you know it. It takes discipline, hard work, and patience. Don't listen to the "it's simple" crap that many un-experience folks will pinch out in your direction. These words come off as being a bit on the condescending side as they appear to belittle the efforts of others who have to try MUCH harder to keep weight off.
It sounds like this is coming from someone who has never struggled with a weight problem. Some people simply have a harder time keeping off weight than others.
<< <i>Sounds like this is coming from someone who has never struggled with a weight problem. Some people simply have a harder time keeping off weight than others. >>
I have struggled and still do, but when I just stay away from processed crap I am fine and my weight goes down rather quickly.
Just look at old pictures of the times before processed food became the norm (i.e 1970's and prior). I'll bet you will be hard pressed to find many overweight people back then, before the advent of processed, ez-quick meals and the microwave. Home cooking was the norm, not send out for a pizza and call it a "dinnertime meal".
But who has the time these days for home cooking when it is so easy just to down a quick Big Mac combo (supersized, please) and get on with whatever it is keeping us busy? That is why many have a serious weight issue now.
Poorguy, Google around for info on processed food, cancer rates, and in particular within the Black male population prior to WWI. Guess what? Cancer was practically non-existent in that group prior to then but with their indoctrinations in WWI and then WWII...processed K-rations etc. they have now caught up the rest of the US in those rates.
P.S. Good luck on your weight loss plan. Try walking 2-3 miles per day; 3-4 miles if you have the time.
Good luck in keeping if off, and I mean that sincerely.
I just hope no one else reads your thread and thinks this is the correct way to lose weight and keep it off. And, using a doctor in the right way can be a big help.
For some of us, it really is more difficult than others. Some of us are just bigger than others. When I was just a little younger than you I tried to see how low I could get. I made it down to 215, but couldn't maintain it. I was a virtual rail believe it or not. 225 - 230 is probably my maintainable weight, which is a 34" pant waist for me and oddly enough the same waist size I had at 215.
Yes, I have seen 325 two years ago, and I have plenty of excuses, etc. (Well, it was somewhere around 325 ... past a point the scale just said "OH MY GOD!!!""
It's taken 2 years to get down to 245, but I'm very healthy and know that I have done it over time and the correct way. That's after 20 years of trying to do it the wrong way.

I agree completely with your opinion of processed foods. My last post was directed at the "Losing weight is Simple" statement. End of story.
I happen to stay away from processed foods. I love to cook and do it all the time and seldom eat breakfast or lunch and eat whatever is around when I get home (never chips or sweets. I hate sweets). I seldom eat bread unless I'm making a sandwich. My biggest problem was and still is a sedentary day job where I'm not usually doing much walking around except to the imaging room or to ship out packages. I also had a stiff drink everyday before sitting down after the kids go to bed (Major %% of my calories in there) and I've only had a drink once in the last 30 days and plan to lay off the stuff dramatically from now on. Trust me, I've tried all the fads, I've done it the hard and slow way, and as of recent, done it a very quick way. If you are overweight and are reading this, this is a very quick way to drop alot of pounds fast and hopefully energize you to close the deal with a new diet and exercise routine.
In a way Loki was right, losing weight is simple. All it takes is to shut your cakehole and stop bad habits. It's a simple thought, the hard part is finding the motivation to start and having the discipline to complete and work ferociously toward a focused goal. I've also applied this to other areas of my life with great results. Since I'm a touch on the OCD Perfectionist side and have an addictive personality, I've learned to contort those traits from something that was a vice into an incredibly powerful virtue. I would advise those who want to try this to see a doctor first. I'm 25 and didn't have any serious conditions but things vary from person to person so it would be safe to get at least checked out first. It is possible to do and is an excellent kick-start to drive the motivation one needs to completely change their life!
When you diet like this, the first thing you lose is water. Even though you are drinking a lot of fluids you are still losing stores of body water. This usually runs a couple of weeks--thus the reason you lost so much so fast-that was water you were losing. Same thing happens the first 2 weeks on those no/low carb diets.
Like I said in an earlier post here-vitamins are nothing but catalysts- eating only vitamins leads to malnutrition and starvation.
When you starve yourself your body goes on the defensive. Your body thinks it is stuck on a deserted island and kinda brings your metabolism down to a low low level--a lower plateau if you will, and here you actually slow down the weight loss. This is the reason why people that put themselves on a 1000 calorie/day diet lose weight up to a point then kinda stop losing weight-their body just adjusts down to the lower plateau and when they resume normal caloric intake-they gain weight.
Listen to Doug and talk to a professional. Not a diet guru, a real professional.

Try not to confuse him with facts or reality. He's already made up his mind. Remember he's 25, he's tried all of the other ways to lose weight, even the one's he doesn't know about. He's got the whole world figured out. It's just a shame that he's gone public here and possibly put the entire diet, health, & nutrition industries into bankruptcy with this "diet by starvation" revalation. Now I suddenly fear that the whole country is going to be thin.

<< <i>Poorguy, Google around for info on processed food, cancer rates, and in particular within the Black male population prior to WWI.
<< <i>When you diet like this, the first thing you lose is water. Even though you are drinking a lot of fluids you are still losing stores of body water. This usually runs a couple of weeks--thus the reason you lost so much so fast-that was water you were losing. Same thing happens the first 2 weeks on those no/low carb diets.
