ASE Specifications

Yes -- it is another ASE thread (since no one was answering me elsewhere...)

This is the spec sheet that comes with the ASE set:

image

Two things that seem goofy:

1) It says that the coins only have 0.999 ounce of silver -- not one ounce?

2) It says that the Proof is thicker than the Unc and the RP -- wtf?

I'm guessing these are just errors -- maybe later sets will have the information corrected, making these early error specs rare and valuable.

You should re-order the coins in your image so they match the spec sheet below image

Proof ---- Uncirculated ---- Reverse Proof

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Are the REV and UNC switched around in the picture?

That's funny! You should sell them on ebay as a "Mint error."

It's not my picture -- and yes, the Unc and RP are switched around.

    Bob:

send your coins back, the mint will fix everything - or screw it up more!

What the heck are you doing reading stuff - I can't believe you actually read that. I don't read maps, instructions or any descriptions - it ain't manly.

The silver content is correct. There is probally small trace elements in the coin... as for the thickness... no clue what that is about image

Look again, it says .999 oz of silver. There is .999 purity of the silver!

The sheet says right on it that the balance is copper.

As for the thickness, could it be accounting for the frost? image (Joking)

Maybe there is more air in the proof coin.image

I seem to rememner that some sellers were selling a Jumbo ASE but these were the UNC ones and some of the tubes were slightly longer than others. I think it was brought up that the rims were a little higher that was all. Never heard this about the proofs though.

Maybe the proof is thicker because it is struck with more pressure
    thereby resulting in higher relief.image

I'm guessing the reverse proof has less relief than the proof, but
I have yet to see the reverse proof for myself.

    My first post...updated with pics

I collect mostly moderns and I'm currently working on a US type set.

I would have expected the proof and reverse proof to be the same thickness and both of them greater than that of the Unc. Since the proofs are struck twice and with higher pressure the rims are more fully struck up and the thickness, if measured at the rim, will be greater.
