Wow, Tommy Glavine looks like he's about 14 in that picture!

  • Well, I see Glavine made the right choice opting to play
baseball instead of hockey. He was drafted by the Kings in 1984
ahead of Luc Robitaille, but I still wonder how he would of done
if he went the other road image

"(A)t the butt-end of his career, waiting on win number 300, Glavine was The Professional, blandly blotting out rallies and walking off the field like he had just cut a man's throat in an alley and didn't want anyone to look at him." - Roy Edroso.

I've never read a better description of Tom's long-demonstrated cool, deadly greatness.

While my beloved Cardinals went down tonight, it was a great game (if you like pitching). Glavine still has it. Just a bad pitch or two by Weaver...oh well, at least it is a long series!!

Like Earl used to say, momentum is your next day's starting pitcher. I would expect the Redbirds to have the better end of the pitching matchup tonight.
  • I decided to pick this one up a few months ago. I find it hard to believe there was a Quality Control department at Topps in the late 80's.....or today for that matter.

That Glavine was chosen ahead of Robitaille in the draft (in the 4th round, 69th overall—FIVE rounds ahead of Robitaille) should tell you how poorly the scouts thought of Robitaille's skating. Talk about two guys- let alone future Hall of Famers in their respective sports- having a good laugh about how life turned out.
