Auction sniper "blew it BIG time" for me ..."bid not in time"?

I set my snipe last week for a nice t205 Cobb. Bidding ends at 620 my bid was a bit higher. Reason for no snipe was "bid not in time" waht the heck is this I am PO'ed :/

    lol auction sniper
  • I don't like hearing that. I just recently signed up with justsnipe and have already used it to win an auction. If they come back at me with a "bid not in time" load I'm going to mail them a bunch of "I didn't make it to the crapper in time."

Sorry to hear about that. If it makes you feel any better just tell yourself that you would still have been outbid by the other guy. image

I looked into one of the snipe sevices a few weeks ago. They said in their FAQ that this can happen, especially if your bid, though higher, was not high enough under Ebay guidelines. What that means for example if the item has a winning bid of $10, the next bid has to be 10.50 to over take the high bid. So if you put a snipe at $10.25 (just for fun when the item was at $5) but someone bid to $10 with a normal Ebay bid, you wouldnt ever win even with your snipe set because Ebay wont take the 10.25 bid.

Now I am not sure if the message you got back is the same as they use for this example. I dont use a snipe so I am not sure. But this may explain it.

I've had a few snipes fail with justsnipe, enough that I stopped using them. I used to use esnipe, and while it failed occasionally it was reliable for the most part. But it got really expensive.
About 4 months ago I switched to bidnapper.com and it's been flawless. It was really cheap and very easy to use.

  • Here's a thought ... what if you opened two different snipe accounts with different services and then double-sniped an auction with the second bid just one notch above the first? Obviously, it's a little more work than just having a single snipe service and I wouldn't do it most of the time but if it were something I simply had to ensure I got a bid in I would consider doing it.

Is there anything that would prevent this from working? Would eBay allow two different snipes from two different snipe companies on the same user name/password?

It works fine that way. On must have items I would place a free snipe with justsnipe at 12 seconds and then let esnipe bid at 5 seconds. You'd avoid esnipe fees most of the time. But there was more than one occasion when the justsnipe bid was missed, and that led me to not trust them.
Bidnapper seems to place 2 bids at times- they might have some sort of redundance built in from 2 different servers. I often see I've got 2 bids placed at the identical time, and have seen others that way as well.

  • I used esnipe for 4 years. Great service but you really pay for it. I switched to justsnipe because of the weekly free snipes. The first auction I used justsnipe on, the snipe didn't go off. I was ticked because I really wanted that item and my bid was significantly higher than the final price. I emailed justsnipe to complain. They told me that the free service uses only one server to place snipes and if that server is down, so will the free snipes be down. The paid premium services uses multiple servers to avoid missing snipes. Since that first bad experience I have been using justsnipe for over a year and they have not missed since.

On a side note, that item I missed was recently put back up for sale via an online forum for over twice what he paid for it. I offered him a very fair offer (and a very fair profit for him) and got turned down. Then the seller decided not to sell it anymore. I swear that thing is my unicorn. Three times I have attempted to buy it only to have it slip away for one reason or another.
