Interested in informative picture threads of Capped Bust Halves by date?

mozinmozin Posts: 8,755 ✭✭✭
We seem to have enjoyed dizzyfoxx's Bust Half thread this past week. After a full week and nearly 100 posts, the Bust Half picture thread is so long it must frustrate dial up members.image

What about starting a Capped Bust Half series of informative picture threads by year date? Since the later dates are far more common, I suggest we start with 1836 and work backwards, in order to allow more members to show off their coins early in the series. Members could simply post pictures, or add whatever information they like. It certainly would be nice to see pictures of most all the Overton marriages.

How many days should each year thread run before a new date is started? I would think 3 or 4 days; maybe start on Sundays, and then next on Thursdays. This would give one weekend day and three weekdays, and then one weekday and two weekend days. Saturdays and Sundays seem to be the busiest on CU. I think it would be nice for Bustie collectors to have something to look forward to twice a week for the next four months.image

We would need to ask members to keep picture file sizes to a reasonable size, in order to accomodate those poor souls on dial-up.

I would prefer leaving it open for anyone to start the year date threads, but then I don't know if we could hold to the Sunday and Thursday starting times. Maybe if the person starting the thread included the information that we only start threads on Sundays and Thursdays, and we are working back from 1836? I could certainly start each thread, but I prefer others get their chance to start threads.image

Please indicate your interest in such a series of Capped Bust Half threads by year date, AND please make constructive suggestions as to how this series should be managed most efficiently.

I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

I only have one CBH, but I would certainly love to contribute pictures of it to a die-mairrage thread for 1827!

I think this is a great idea. image It would be an impressive resource!

And suppose each starter to a thread included links to all the other year threads? Just to make it easy. image

    Mozin,

Great idea...I would make sure that you make it VERY clear how you want to see it set up however. People dont read directions well here.

I would say that there is no need to set up a waiting period. It will take us a VERY long time to come up with all die marriages, even among the collectors here.

Whoever has an Overton 101 of a specific date (except 1807's of course image) should simply title it something standard, add a picture...post diagnostics and be as informative as possible.

Great idea---I would love to see a thread like that keep getting pulled up and added to.
A BHNC member like yourself has to have at least 100 die marriages (I believe it is something like that), so there should be a decent amount of material to feed the thread-- then add us BHNC future members and you have the beginning of a nice informative thread.

Last I looked, the UNO game thread was a half dollar game. It'll take a lib seated by date to steer it back for the Morgan folks to get back in and monopolize it.

I love the idea- I think that starting a new year thread every week on the same day (like a saturday) would make a lot of sense. It would give me a reason to take a few lousy photos of my small (but growing) collection..... image

I honestly think it's a great idea. But it sounds too complicated (for me) and too many rules and regulations. image

I'll play along. It will motivate me to finish photographing my bust halves, since I only got up to 1821 and stopped.

Sounds like a great idea for informative threads on bust halves. No reason to stop at 1807 - go all the way to 1794image I will have limited input on the CBH's, but lots of stuff on the preturbs. Another idea is to start with 1794 and 1836 concurrently and work towards the mid-dates.

that and you're probably one of "these" people....

I'd lean towards that people tend not to follow directions....I won't make any assumptions about someone else's reading comprehension abilities.

I would think that some may be intimidated to post a bust half if they feel they don't have much to say about it, or just don't have the time to type out a lengthy post - so there should be a way for someone to post a coin and let others expound on it--- Just a thought...

Good point. I would hope these hesitant posters, that feel intimidated, would at least post the pictures, and if they want, ask others to attribute the Overton marriage. No explanation needed other than posting the pictures.IMHO

I would have hardly any input on 1794 to 1807 Draped Busties, but if you want to start a thread, I would join in and show off my three Draped Halves. There are so few collectors of the early Bust Half series, I don't know if there would be much response. You could start a thread or two today, just to see how things work out. 1807 Draped should be well attended, but 1794 might go nowhere.

    Nysoto,

It would be nice to see you at the Portland Show this weekend.image

I think it's a great idea, but if you want to keep it ON TRACK, if there's a rule, it's got to be in two sentences or less. Especially for stman!image
    I look foward to it.

Thank you all for your comments. I wrote up the first three threads for 1836-34 and plan to start 1836 on Sunday. If I am up after midnight Pacific time, I will enter it then. Otherwise, it will have to wait until I wake up Sunday morning.

So far, I am asking to allow me to start the first three threads, in hopes of smoothing out the start. I have selected:
    1836 O-113 Doubled Clasp
    1835 O-107 Overdate?
    1834 O-114 Abominable Bastar_

Tomorrow I need to go to the bank and grab the coins I will scan.

Any more suggestions before we start?
