Gosh, you really know your stuff. I think that 89 Billy Ripken is such a novelty to have. I remember as a young teen in middle school what curiosity that card generated among my friends. Its a very famous card to us generation Xers. The same can be said about the Bo Jackson Foot-baseball card, the Murphy Rev-Neg Upper Deck card, and some others I can't think of.

  • ...and Vanilla Ice. lol yeah those are classics in my eyes. I'd add 89 UD Griffey,87 Topps and Frank Thomas NNOF. Ahh those .40 pack memories.

As an O's fan back then, I still would really like to know which teammate wrote the funny words on the knob of the bat. I was thinking about starting a rumor that Curt Schilling did it, but he was a rookie so no one would believe it. Maybe I'll go with Mickey Tettleton. Or Fred Lynn. No, it was definitely Tettleton.

  • I heard Greenwell as they were friends and then I heard he said on XM radio this May? that he wrote it on his practice bat and grabbed it on accident for the pic and I heard it was never on the bat but Fleer added to the pic. I guess this mystery will go the same path as Hoffa's location.

Too bad Rick Dempsey wasn't around then. He pulled a ton of practical jokes that are legendary amoung insiders for the Orioles. I know of the time he woke Cal Ripken up at 3:30 when he came in from a late night. Cal got him back by flipping him and his mattress over and sitting on him eating cereal and watching cartoons at 7am the next morning. Priceless.
