Prussian horseback medal from The Atlanta Show

New purchase from the Whitman Coin and Collectibles Expo in Atlanta:

This is a commemorative medal of the Kaiser-Parade Und Manover, 1897. It shows Kaiser Wilhelm II on horseback, wearing a cuirasse and pickelhaube.

    In his prime the Kaiser often changed uniforms several times daily, depending on which foreign dignitaries he was meeting with.

    After the war, his "retirement" house in Doorn (the Netherlands) held several large closets full of uniforms, boots, helmets, etc., although by that time he'd taken to wearing the tweeds of an English country gentleman. Horseback military maneuvers and spiked helmets were out; chopping wood, raising rose gardens, and feeding ducks were in.
