Paranoid

Is it just me? Sometimes it feels as if the entire World Wide Web is conspiring against me on eBay lately.

I have been bidding furiously lately on cards I need for a few of my 60's baseball sets. And the prices these cards are fetching are unreal! I lost a multitude of 1967 PSA 8's during the past couple of weeks which ended up going over 200% of SMR!! (6th and 7th series cards.) But get this: I did score the Demeter in PSA 8. It's the DP high numbers that are going wild.

Then, tonight, came the knockout blow. A 1963 PSA 7 Pete Rose. I wanted that card badly, so I put in a bid of $1,099...more than $300 above SMR. And still lost!

What is up out there? I realize that auctions are exactly that...and the market drives the final price. But, am I missing something here? Is every card going for incredibly high prices right now? Are we in a fabulous sellers' market?

Or, as the heading implies, are just the ones that I need on fire this month ?

The only thing I would caution is be aware of what dealers you are buying from as some dealers always bring more regardless of the condition of their cards (high/low end for the grade). Dealers will bump each other up as favors or if they see a card going too low in their opinion (based on fact since they will admit if you ask). I don't blame them as alot of times we registry people will allow others/friends to buy cards they need with no competition so the card sells artificially low.

I think I should go gaze lovingly at the PSA 8 Vada Pinson I bought a few weeks ago...

PSA 7 Roses that are dead on centered often draw $900. You may be happy that one got away at that price. That top right corner looks a little rough to command top dollar in my opinion. You will land one eventually.

Meanwhile, do you think that PSA 7 Rose up on eBay tonight is legit? The one that ends in 5+ days?
